According Abba Aji, a police officer attached to Red cross, 2 Boko Haram suicide bombers attacked Mammanti, a community on the outskirts of Maiduguri, Borno state and succeeded in leaving six people injured.

“Any parent either out of ignorance or willingly refuses to send his child to school will be made to face the full wrath of the law,” Alhaji Kaka-Shehu Lawan, the Bono State Attorney 
General/Commissioner of Justice said. 
 
He told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Maiduguri that government was already offering parents several incentives to encourage them to send their children to schools. 
The commissioner noted that it was lamentable that some parents still refused to send their children to school in spite of the incentives. 
“The government has directed the Borno State Basic Education Board (SUBEB) to mobilise all children of school age to be enrolled in schools. 
“It has also invested heavily in constructing new schools and renovating those vandalised by Boko Haram terrorists in the course of the insurgency, so as to provide conducive 
atmosphere for learning”. 
Lawan said that government had also introduced free school 
bus services and other incentives to attract children back to 
schools. 
“Government has procured 150 luxury buses to provide free 
ride to school children in Maiduguri and communities liberated 
from the terrorists by the military. 
“It has also introduced the provision of free meals, school uniform and books in schools as part of the incentives to retain students in schools. 
“The governor is also looking at the possibilities of introducing 
cash incentives to parents to ensure retention of children in 
schools,” the commissioner added</div>

Ali led one of the army’s fiercest-ever battles with Boko Haram, in February 2015, culminating in the recapture of Baga town in Borno state. 
 
Sani Usman, army spokeman, said he was killed in an encounter with the insurgents on Friday. 
 
The deceased was was granted accelerated promotion from rank of major to lieutenant-colonel in September 2015, for his courageous performance in a series of the army’s engagements with Boko Haram. 
 
Usman added that four soldiers were killed, but that troops killed 14 of the insurgents who attacked a location of the army in Borno state. 
 
“Yesterday at about 10.00pm suspected Boko Haram terrorists attacked a 119 Battalion Nigerian army location at Mallam Fatori, northern Borno state. The troops fought gallantly and repelled the attack, killing 14 Boko Haram terrorists,” he said. 
 
“Unfortunately, we lost an officer and four soldiers, while four other soldiers sustained various degrees of injuries during the encounter. One of those killed in action, was Lieutenant Colonel Muhammad Abu Ali, the Commanding Officer of 272 Task Force Tank Battalion.” 
 
During TheCable’s investigative trip to the theatre of war, soldiers, majority of whom have built an unwanted reputation for always criticising the army hierarchy, spoke highly of Ali’s professionalism. 
 
One of the soldiers, who partook in the Baga operation, narrated his experience to TheCable . 
 
“In the case Baga, when it was recaptured from Boko Haram, Abu Ali, who led that operation, told the soldiers that they should not worry, that they should only do five percent of the job, that he was going to do 95% of the job with the tanks,” he had said. 
 
“And that was exactly what happened. He did most of the work with the tanks. He was a major at that time and his promotion after the operation was automatic because he performed very well. One smallish guy like that o.”</div>

 In a statement issued by Col. Sani Usman, acting Director Army Public Relations in Abuja, the army, however said it lost two soldiers during the fight. 
 Usman said the terrorists launched attacked on troops of Operation Lafiya Dole and Multinational Task Force at about 6:30 a.m. on Thursday, which lasted for two hours. 
 He said while many of the insurgents escaped with gunshot wound, four soldiers also sustained injuries. 
 “The bodies of our late colleagues and the wounded have since been evacuated. 
 “The troops have continued mop up and clearance operations of the remnants of the terrorists. 
 “They have also intensified vigilance and high level of alertness,” he said. 
 Usman said items recovered from the terrorists include a gun truck, one 60mm Mortar tube, seven 60mm mortar bomb, a General Purpose Machine (GPMG), three damaged AK 47 Rifle and four bandoliers of anti-aircraft rounds of ammunition.

According to the source, the insurgents trekked to the village at about 8:30am and threw improvised explosive devices (IED) at the local people. 
 
The terrorists looted the village of foodstuffs before burning it down completely. 
 
 
However, the source noted that Boko Haram has been weakened significantly and lacked the necessary weaponry to engage the military in direct confrontation. 
 
“Five people were killed on Friday, including a young girl, when Boko Haram invaded our village near Damboa town. Some women were injured. We went after them in a gun battle, some were killed but four were arrested. We brought them to Damboa,” he said.

Garbai, who spoke to journalists on Saturday during a condolence visit to Dalori village where 65 persons were reportedly killed last week by the insurgents, said the sect controls half of the state while the military controls the other half. 
 
But speaking during an interview on Channels Television, on Monday, Adesina said Garbai’s statement should not be taken seriously because Borno State Governor, Kashim Shettima, had debunked his claims. 
 
Adesina said a senator could not have more credible information about the state than the state governor. 
 
 
 
He said, “Not one of the 27 local government areas of Borno State is dominated by the Boko Haram sect. Senator Garbai’s claim has been debunked by the Borno State Government. I think the state governor’s information is superior to that of the senator. The state has superior information than him.” 
 
The president’s spokesperson said the tanks donated by the United States to aid Nigeria’s military operation in the North-East, would yield positive results because the tanks are resistant to landmines. 
 
He said the problem being encountered by Nigerian troops in entering the Sambisa Forest was because the forest was laced with mines. 
 
Asked to quantify what the Federal Government had got from the President’s foreign trips, Adesina said, “This kind of thing is not done in public glare because it is an issue pertaining to defence. When you get weaponry, you don’t begin to display such for the world to see, particularly in a country undergoing insurgency. 
 
“You don’t begin to tell the enemy what you have. Yes, we have got weaponry and training assistance from a number of countries. 
 
Adesina also faulted former President Goodluck Jonathan for saying that the equipment his administration bought is presently being used to prosecute the war against insurgency. 
 
He said, “If we say government is a continuum, then what is the big deal in you buying weapons and the next government using them? The second is that the Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said the weaponry is inferior. I am sure he must have relied on facts from the Defence headquarters. 
 
“The fact is that you cannot separate the economy from the anti-corruption war. When people ask me the economic direction of this government, I tell them that from the anti-corruption war, you know the economic direction. The direction is the one in which there must be accountability and everywhere the President went, he has sought help to fight the corruption war. He has been to the United Arab Emirates and the US. There is a lot of success.”</div>

The News Agency of Nigeria recalls that the attacks came barely one week after the Dalori incident in which some 100 persons were killed. 
 
Some residents in Mairi told newsmen that the attackers arrived the village on bicycles at about 8.30pm. 
 
“The attackers came on bicycles and started shooting continuously. 
 
“The community was taken unaware as many people were relaxing after the late night Muslim prayers, Malam Baana Bukar, a resident said. 
 
Bukar said that the attackers set ablaze buildings as they ransacked the community. 
 
He said, “we took to our heels to escape the attack. 
 
“When we returned in the morning we discovered that four persons (three women and one man) had died. 
 
“The women were roasted after their houses were set ablaze by the attackers but the man was shot dead with a gun during the attack.” 
 
Malam Ahmed Tijjani, the Vice Chairman of the local vigilante-civilian JTF in charge of the Konduga local government confirmed the report. 
 
He said that the attackers also raided an adjourning village, Malari. 
 
“They attacked Malari village after leaving Mairi but the people had escaped before their arrival when they heard gun shots,” he said. 
 
Tijjani said that the terrorists set ablaze all private and public buildings in the village. 
 
Alhaji Babakaka Garbai, the Senator representing Borno Central at the National Assembly, who also confirmed the incident, expressed shock at the development. 
 
“Yes, they killed four persons here and burnt all the houses,” Garbai said when he paid a sympathy visit to the communities. 
 
He said that the surrounding villages had been deserted as the villagers had fled en mass for fear of attacks by the insurgents.</div>
