How the app relates to the course isn’t immediately clear. However, Salford University lecturer Dr David Kreps says that it will make the course more accessible, and easier to grasp. Pokémon Go, he says, fits perfectly with that. 
 
“It uses various information systems that are accessed over the internet, a digital camera and a GPS location sensor.” 
 
Kreps also emphasized that while the course requires students to play Pokémon Go, it will get “a little more complicated” than just catching endless amounts of Rattata. 
 
This isn’t the first time Pokémon Go has been used in an academic setting. The University of Idaho offers a class called Pop Culture Games, where playing Pokémon Go is a requirement to pass. 
 
Course instructor Steven Bird says “This app does more than let you shoot a Pokéball. You get to adventure around, seeing different things, being active, seeing the sun. It allows you to move in large groups and a team. You get not only physical activity, but you also get team-building and leadership.”

Chairman, National Parents Teachers Association of Nigeria (NAPTAN), Oyo State chapter, Alhaji Abiodun Jimoh, said this in Ibadan, yesterday, after a meeting with the governor. 
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), on June 6, primary and secondary school students went on rampage to protest government’s proposed public/private participatory management of schools. 
The pupils had protested following allegations that the state government had sold their schools. 
However, the state government dismissed the allegations and said the initiative was participatory which was aimed at boosting the education sector. 
Jimoh told newsmen that the association had visited the governor to appeal to him to re-open the schools. 
The NAPTAN chairman said the governor expressed his displeasure over the involvement of pupils in the protest. 
He said Ajimobi said he would re-open the schools only if the affected institutions submitted letters of apology to government over the unruly behaviour of their pupils. 
Jimoh also said the association would wade into the face-off between labour and government. 
He said the governor told them he had reached an agreement with labour on the modality for payment of salaries to workers. 
Jimoh said the governor also stressed the need for labour to embrace dialogue, saying his government was predisposed to this at anytime. 
 
Ogun tasks forestry stakeholders on revenue generation 
 
Ogun State Government has charged Divisional Forest Programme Officers (DFPO) to intensify efforts on revenue generation in their respective forest ranges and ensure wood merchants play according to the rules and regulations. 
Commissioner for Forestry, Chief Kolawole Lawal gave the charge when he addressed foresters in Sagamu, Iperu, Ago-Iwoye and Owode Egba free area ranges. 
Lawal said irrespective of the fact that the ranges were free zones that had not precluded them from generating more revenue. 
He advised that they should map out strategies towards the objective of raking revenue into government coffers. 
In another development, the commissioner ordered that all sawmills yet to renew operational licences in defiance of government directive on the payment of operational licences should be sealed off immediately. 
He, therefore, urged the DFPOs to ensure contractors renewed their property hammers, hackney permit for felling machine and timber lorries in accordance with the rules guiding forest operations in the state.</div>

It started way back in 1988, when the elders of Fagge community, including Islamic scholars, convened a meeting and resolved to establish an Islamiyya school for married women, because at that time there was none in the area. It was at that meeting that my father offered to give me out as a teacher in the school. By then, I had completed my Grade II and was teaching under the Universal Basic Education Board. Based on the certificate I had then, they appointed me the head of the school when it finally took off. We started with two classes of about 50 students and had six teachers, including myself. 
 
 
HOW DID YOU COME TO OWN 80 SCHOOLS? 
As I said earlier, we started with only two classes of 50 students, within a short time, the school recorded massive enrolment that forced us to use people’s houses as classrooms. Gradually, women from other places began to request for the establishment of similar schools in their areas. That was how our schools continued to spread, reaching other local government areas of the state. For now, I have opened about 80 schools in 12 local government areas, comprising Fagge, Municipal, Nasarawa, Dala, Ungogo, Kumbotso, Dawakin Tofa, Tarauni, Dawakin Kudu, Minjibir, Bichi and Gezawa. 
 
HOW DO YOU SOURCE FOR TEACHERS? 
At first the teachers were sourced from outside, then I persuaded some of my friends to assist, but that did not last long because their expectation was higher than what I was paying them. Sometimes they got N200 at the end of the month as at that time, so they were not happy with that. To address the issue, I decided to look inward. I, therefore, adopted the Qur’anic school method where the senior students are instructed to teach the junior ones. We selected the best from those that graduated and posted them to other classes to teach. Through that method we were able to have enough quality teachers for all our schools. Now we have over 200 teachers. It will, perhaps, baffle you to hear that what we are paying them is just a token, because at the end of the month, they get not more than N4,000. They are doing it as a contribution to the provision of education to the womenfolk. 
 
WHAT DO YOU TEACH IN THESE SCHOOLS? 
These schools are primarily established to educate married women about their religion. So we teach Qur’an, Hadith, Jurisprudence, Arabic, Poems and other Islamic sciences. At our secondary level, we added English language and Mathematics. 
 
WHAT ABOUT FUNDING? 
Our main source of funding is the school fees that the students pay. At the beginning of every term, students pay N500 each as school fees. But you should know that as small as this fee is, there are many that can not afford it and we still allow them to continue in the school. In fact in our local government areas, even N100 is hard to get from the students, but we do not send them back home. 
Apart from the school fees, we also have charity coffers where students contribute whatever they could and with it we run the schools and even engage in some charity activities, such as providing food to in-patients during Ramadan, assisting in wedding activities of the less privileged and other humanitarian aids. 
 
HOW DO YOU COORDINATE THESE SCHOOLS? 
I tour my schools from time to time to see how they are faring and I get feedback from the local government areas through some of the students saddled with leadership responsibilities. 
 
WHAT ARE THE CHALLENGES YOU ARE FACING? 
Our main challenge is funding. The meagre amount that we are charging as school fees is too small for our numerous activities. For instance, the fuelling and servicing of our bus that is used to transport our teachers to the local government areas and for touring to monitor the schools over N100,000 in a month. It is from this little fund that we are paying our teachers the meagre N4,000. Most of these schools we are still running them in people’s houses; we are yet to have our own structures. There are some areas that we have plots of land but we are unable to develop any because of lack of funds. If I can get the money that will build huts for me, I’m ready to build them and use them as classrooms. 
Another thing that is disturbing us is lack of vehicles that we can use in touring our schools. We received two buses from former Governor Ibrahim Shekarau and the Shari’ah Commission but because of the hectic activities, the buses got grounded. Though we tried hard to revive one, it will not be sufficient for us. 
 
ARE YOU NOT RECEIVING DONATIONS FROM INDIVIDUALS OR ORGANIZATIONS? 
There is no organization, either here or abroad, that is assisting these schools. As for individuals, we have a few people that have been contributing, most especially with sewing machines for our graduating students. I know the incumbent governor, when he was the deputy governor, he had assisted us through his foundation. There is also the wife of the former governor, Hajiya Amina Shekarau, who is still donating machines to our graduates. 
I want government and individuals, including the Zakkah Commission, to come to our aid, so that we can continue to give education to our teeming women. Let them know that it is the responsibility of government and parents to give education to its people. Since we have made a giant stride on this path, they should assist us to reach our objectives. 
Our schools are not just for imparting knowledge, they also give moral training so that if you relate with our students, you will find them to be of good behaviour. We have received numerous commendations from husbands for making their wives to be good partners. And there are other places where we are wanted to open our schools. If we have strong backing, we can reach all local government areas in the state and give the women the opportunity to acquire education and morals.

The board said it relocated 59, 000 candidates in 15 states because of problems in some of the centres. 
 
It also said candidates who had system failure during the examination would retake it, if the board finds their complaint to be genuine. 
 
 
The Registrar of the board, Prof. Dibu Ojerinde, who said this at a press conference in Abuja yesterday, added that the new development does not affect candidates who missed the examination deliberately or failed in the examination. 
 
He said among the 1,546,633 candidates that sat for the 2016 UTME, 145, 704 had issues of multiple results which have been resolved by the board. 
 
Prof. Ojerinde added that 23, 577 candidates were absent on the day of the examination. 
 
“We relocated candidates where the board had challenges. The board is looking at some of the issues raised during the examination, but most of the excuses raised by candidates are flimsy,” he said. 
 
“We relocated about 59, 000 candidates due to the problems in various centres which vary from town to town. There are about 59,000 of them spread across 15 states of the federation. 
 
“Those that were relocated never suffered any setback or inconvenience. For all these two sets of people, I want to apologise sincerely for what happened to them, but we are going to put on a redress for those whose relocation affected them in missing their examination. 
 
“Let me use this opportunity to offer explanation on the issue of the much-publicized two results. The process of our marking involves transformation and other qualitative programming. In the process of these configurations, we had a little challenge which we quickly corrected and ensured that this never happened in subsequent results. This challenge was only associated with the candidates that sat for this examination on Saturday, 27, and some candidates of Monday, 29 February, 2016.” 
 
Prof. Ojerinde said the board found out that some of the over 500 centres used for the CBT was compromised by the operators. 
 
He said that one of its centres in Uromi, Edo State was invaded by mercenaries during the examination. 
 
He blamed the education consultants for mobilizing candidates to protest against the conduct of the examination by the board, adding that the quality of the centres used for UTME would not be compromised. 
 
“In our quest to have adequate and effective centres for the exercise, we approved over 500 centres, but unfortunately, some of the centre operators were not sincere in proving us with the true position of their facilities. 
 
“They hired equipment during the period of accreditation and other necessary apparatus and on the examination day, they were found wanting. This led to relocation or rescheduling of candidates from some of them to more suitable centres. 
 
He said Nigeria was ready to take the CBT examination, adding that reverting to the PPT as directed by the House of Representatives would amount to lack of progress. 
 
According to him, the CBT would be improved upon. 
 
“Even the physically challenged are taking the CBT examination. One of the blind candidates scored 286, so why should others complain? 
 
“Going back to the Paper and Pencil Test will amount to taking one step forward and two steps backwards,” he said.</div>

The due of Hon. Deacon Chike Okafor, the member representing Okigwe South Federal constituency and the Chief of staff government house Owerri, Hon. Uche Nwosu, blessed Chigozie with the total sum of five hundred thousand naira each(500,000) as an IMO star. He was also inducted and decorated as a member of Imsu alumni on the course of the programme. 
The pro Chancellor of the institution, Chief Innocent pledged to donate a brand new car to Mr Chigozie from his company, innoson group of company. 
Hon. Mathew Omegara equally gave a total sum of 50,000 for fueling of his brand new car.

The Deputy Registrar, Information and Protocol, Mr Toyin Adebule told source that the panel should be inaugurated next week. 
 
“We plan to set up a panel to investigate the immediate and remote causes of the fire,” Adebule said. 
 
The late Kyari was in the entourage of the Shehu of Borno, who was installed as the Chancellor of the university on Thursday during its 2014/2015 convocation. 
 
However, he died of suffocation as a result of smoke inhalation from a fire suspected to have been caused by a power surge around 2am on Wednesday morning. 
 
The fire affected four rooms, A12, A13, A14 and A15 at the guest house. 
 
Adebule said that the university sent a condolence letter with the Chancellor’s entourage to Borno yesterday. 
 
The Chancellor’s installation went as planned despite the death. 
 
The deceased was buried on Thursday according to Islamic rights.</div>

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the UTME, which will be Computer Base Test (CBT) mode all through, is expected to begin on Monday, February 29. 
This is contained in a statement signed by the Head, Media and Information of the board, Fabian Benjamin. 
According to the statement, the attention of the board was drawn to protests by some alleged prospective candidates in Edo and Lagos states over the closure of the board’s registration portal in preparation to the UTME. 
“The board sincerely sympathises with the plight of these prospective candidates. 
“It is indeed the wish of the board that the Nigerian youth desirous of tertiary education are given ample opportunity to register for its examination. 
“This is why it began the sale of its application document in August 2015, which is about seven months ago. 
 
 
“In the advertisement for the sale of the registration documents, the board clearly stated that the sales would close by January. 
“But due to public appeal it extended the registration process to February,” the statement read in part. 
The board further stated that it could not allow candidates to register perpetually, adding that it had a time table and it adheres strictly to it. It noted that this was to allow tertiary institutions to begin admission processes early. 
 
“We all must work to enshrine the culture of discipline in the system and ensure that tertiary institutions calendars are not truncated. 
“It is most unfortunate that some candidates waited until our website was withdrawn before making attempts to register,” the board stated. 
 
It noted that every aspiring candidate was expected to know the procedure as proper publicity involving the media was done. 
More than one million candidates have so far registered for the examination on the all CBT platform within and outside the country. 
More than 500 centres were also accredited for the conduct of the examination within and outside Nigeria.
