Lalong said this during an interview with State House correspondents after he formally presented Chief Rotimi Akeredolu, the All Progressives Congress’s gubernatorial candidate in Ondo, to President Buhari. 
 
According to him, Buhari is the President of Nigeria, and neither a PDP member nor INEC chairman. 
 
“Let me say it was even wrong for them to start running to Mr President,to help them solve the problem of PDP in their party, Mr President is the President of Nigeria and he is not a member of PDP. 
 
“Even when we have problems in APC, we don’t run to Mr President, if he (Mimiko) has a problem in his state, he is the governor, let him stay there and resolve the matter. 
 
“It is a matter between PDP, and those matters are in court, so, why should you run to the President. Is the President the chief judge of Nigeria? He is not the INEC chairman either.” 
 
Lalong, who is the Chairman of the APC Governorship campaign in Ondo, revealed that President Buhari has endorsed the candidature of Rotimi Akeredolu as APC candidate for the election.

Gov. Mohammed Abubakar of Bauchi and Gov. Badaru Abubakar of Jigawa, who were in the Presidential Villa, told the State House correspondents that they discussed security issues with President Buhari. 
 
“We have come to confer (which is usual) with Mr President. But as you can see, I am here with the governor of Jigawa, as you know we share a border with Jigawa. 
 
“We have come to discuss some security concerns with the President to solicit for his support for us to effectively ensure security in the two states, this is basically what we have come to discuss,’’ Gov. Abubakar said. 
 
On Northern governors’ trip to US, Abubakar said that the governors were invited by the United States Peace Institute based in Washington. 
 
According to him, the United States’ government had a great concern in the northern part of Nigeria. 
 
“They believe whatever situation that exists in the northern part of Nigeria have a multiplier effect on the whole nation. 
 
“So, if you are able to solve the problem before it becomes a national problem, it will help, we have discussed with them the root causes of insurgency and illiteracy, poverty, lack of empowerment of youth and women. 
 
“These are points we have discussed and the issues of IDPs in Borno, Bauchi, Taraba, Gombe. 
 
“They have indicated their concern for the humanitarian crisis and especially about the situation of children in the IDP camps, and we have solicited for their immediate support so that we can overcome the challenges,’’ he added.</div>

The Commission subsequently went ahead and published Mr. Jegede's name as the Candidate of the ruling party despite a factional crisis rocking the State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). 
 
The electoral body, however, dropped the name of Jimoh Ibrahim who has also been parading himself as the recognized governorship Candidate of the PDP in the same state. 
 
Mr. Ibrahim, a controversial businessman was the factional candidate of the party under the control of the embattled factional PDP Chairman, Alimodu Sheriff. 
 
Mr. Jegede, a former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Ondo State was the factional candidate of the PDP in the state under the factional National Chairman, Ahmed Makarafi. 
 
The duo of Biyi Poroye and Clement Faboyede laying claims to the leadership control of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ondo State. 
 
SaharaReporters correspondent reported that the Commission has also recognized Rotimi Akeredolu as the gubernatorial candidate of the opposition All Progressives Congress in Ondo State. 
 
It was learned that the Commission had already cleared no fewer than twenty-eight political parties and their Candidates that would participate in the November 26th governorship poll in the state. 
 
Names of the political parties and their candidates where made public on Thursday evening.

In a statement by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, the President said that the outcome of the election clearly reflected the mood of the people to sustain the pedigree of responsiveness, forthrightness and diligence that Governor Oshomole brought into the service of his people. 
‘‘The victory is good for democracy, for Nigeria and the people of Edo State,’’ he said. 
President Buhari also said that the victory was well-deserved as the campaign train, which he joined, worked hard to sell its people-centered manifesto.He applauded the conduct of the Independent National Electoral Commission, security agencies, corps members and electorate in ensuring a peaceful election.INEC had announced that Obaseki won the majority of the votes cast, with a total of 319,483 votes, and he was closely followed by Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the PDP, who polled 253,173 votes.

Nick Dazang, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Deputy Director for Voter Education and Publicity, disclosed this in an interview with NAN on Tuesday in Abuja. 
Mr. Dazang said the decision to accept Mr. Ize-Iyamu, candidate of the PDP National Caretaker Committee, led by Ahmed Makarfi, was informed by the court’s decision on the matter. 
“The commission collected the nomination from Makarfi-led faction because he has a court judgment that says INEC should accept his candidate. 
“Secondly, you will recall that it is only his own faction of PDP primary that the commission monitored,” Mr. Dazang said. 
The PDP has been rocked by an internal crisis, with two factions laying claim to the party’s national leadership. 
A faction led by Ali Modu Sheriff submitted the name of Matthew Iduoriyekwemwen as its candidate for the Sept. 10 Edo polls, after the Makarfi faction had submitted Mr. Ize-Iyamu’s name. 
The Makarfi’s group, supported by all organs of the party, including the Governors’ Forum and the Board of Trustees, conducted its primary on June 20 in Benin and elected Mr. Ize-Iyamu as candidate. 
On June 29, at another primary that was not supervised by INEC as required by the Electoral Act, Mr. Sheriff’s faction picked Mr. Iduoriyekwemwen as the party’s candidate for the Sept. 10 election. 
INEC had said earlier that it would not accept any candidate until a court decides on the matter. 
A Federal High Court in Port Harcourt on July 4 held that the May 21 national convention that removed Mr. Sheriff as chairman and constituted the National Caretaker Committee was duly constituted. 
The court also declared that the dissolution of the National Working Committee and the National Executive Committee by that convention was valid. 
In the judgment, Justice Abdullahi Liman declared that the appointment of the caretaker committee to oversee the party’s affairs was legal and in line with the provisions of PDP Constitution. 
Mr. Dazang said on Tuesday that the commission had received nomination forms from 19 political parties including the All Progressives Congress (APC). 
He listed others as: Action Aliance (AA), African Democratic Congress (ACD), Advance Congress of Democrats (ACD), Allied Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Citizens Popular Party (CPP), Independent Democrats (ID) among others.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Mr. Aniedi Ikoiwak, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Port Harcourt that judgment of election tribunal and Court of Appeal excluded the party and its candidate from participating in the election. 
NAN recalls that the All Progressives Congress candidate, Mr. Fredrick Anabraba, won the election for the constituency with 2,970 votes. 
Ikoiwak explained that two days to the re-run, the commission wrote to the state chapter of PDP informing it that the party and its candidate had been excluded in the election. 
“The decision was taken by the commission in compliance with the judgment of the tribunal and that of the Court of Appeal,” he said. 
The commissioner said insinuations that the commission deliberately disqualified the candidate was false and baseless. 
 
He said the courts took the decision and INEC complied. 
Ikoiwak said the commission would fix a date for repeat election in the eight local government areas where the exercise was cancelled due to irregularities.</div>

The Tribunal Chairman, Justice Kazeem Alogba, gave the date on Thursday after taking arguments from parties in the petition challenging the election and declaration of Chief Seriake Dickson as governor of Bayelsa State. 
In the motion on notice filed and argued by Sebastine Hon on behalf of the petitioner, an order of the Tribunal was sought to compel the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission to allow the petitioner inspect election materials used for the poll. 
Among the 37 materials sought to be inspected are the ballot papers used, thumb printed and counted as valid, the ballot papers recorded as spoilt, un-used and print out of records of accreditation as captured by the Smart Card Reader. 
Others are the voter register in all the polling units and the eight Local Government Areas, INEC result sheets, security report on the election, appointed observers’ reports, video and audio reports on the election and letters of complaints of irregularities and malpractices during the election addressed to INEC. 
Moving the motion, predicated on seven grounds, Hon prayed the Tribunal to grant the request since the electoral body, which conducted the election and is in possession of the items, did not oppose the application. 
Hon said in law, the facts deposed to in an affidavit and not challenged by way of counter affidavit are deemed admitted by the respondents by the force of law. 
The counsel argued that the counter affidavit filed by Dickson through his counsel, Tayo Oyetibo (SAN), was misconceived and misplaced because it did not address the issues raised in the petitioner’s motion. 
The petitioner’s lawyer argued that it was wrong of the governor (2nd Respondent) to have claimed that the petitioner’s motion was vague because the documents sought to be inspected by the petitioner are well pleaded in the petition and in line with section 151 of the Electoral Act 2010. 
However, in his opposition to the request, Dickson urged the Tribunal to refuse the application for lacking in merit. 
Oyetibo submitted that the prayers in the application of Silva did not support what he wanted to the Tribunal to do for him. 
The Governor’s counsel specifically insisted that the petitioner’s request was vague because it failed to mention the author or maker of the material sought to be inspected. 
Besides, Dickson’s counsel claimed that the petitioner failed to give reasons why he wanted to inspect the materials used for the election, adding also that the request violated section 104 of the Evidence Act because the mandatory fee for certification of the materials has not been paid by the petitioner. 
Oyetibo also submitted that his client has every right to oppose the inspection of the election materials by reason of fair hearing because the inspection, if carried out, can have direct negative consequences on the Governor, his client. 
He urged the dismissal of the application for lacking in merit. 
Alogba fixed April 11, 2016 to deliver ruling on whether to allow the inspection of the materials or not.</div>

MORE Nigerians have reacted to the alleged failure 
of the card readers in some parts of the country 
during the presidential and National Assembly 
elections held at the weekend, blaming the 
Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) 
for the situation. 
Governor Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu of Niger State 
challenged INEC to avail the Nigerian public the 
identities of the suppliers of the equipment as well 
as the cost of the contract. 
Speaking to newsmen at his residence in Minna, the 
state capital shortly after casting his vote, Aliyu, 
who was a senatorial candidate of the ruling Peoples 
Democratic Party (PDP) for Niger East in the 
election, noted that making those details available 
to the public would enable them make informed 
judgment about the workability or otherwise of the 
equipment. 
On a personal level, he declared that the equipment, 
rather than adding value to the whole electoral 
process, had succeeded in creating more panic in the 
system, lamenting that 16 years down the line, the 
Nigerian democracy had experienced several trial and 
error processes. 
For Governor Aliyu, the card reader has not added 
value to the whole electoral process, instead, it has 
created some panic in the minds of the people. 
Though it did not take him long to be accredited, the 
governor, confirmed that he had to use all his 10 
fingers before one was eventually accepted. 
“For me, the process didn’t take long, but my 10 
fingers had to be used before one of them got 
accepted by the machine. But I had thought that 
anything to be done must add value to what you are 
doing, I thought that was the concept of the card 
reader. 
“I have received complaints already in some local 
governments where the card reader did not work, 
and we said they should follow what INEC had 
already said. Where it is not working, you can by 
pass it and other things, but up till today, I’m still 
not convinced that it has added any value to the 
situation.” 
For me, the process didn’t take long, but my 10

The governor expressed the need for INEC to begin 
early preparation for e-voting immediately after 
the April 11 elections so that the next round of 
elections in 2019 should not suffer this kind of 
embarrassment. 
Also, Governor Aliyu would want the commission to 
tell Nigerians the status of the earlier claims by the 
Department of State Services about the alleged 
cloning of the Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs) by 
some persons in Lagos, saying coming out clean by 
the commission would permanently lay to rest the 
conspiracy theory surrounding the PVCs. 
“I’m very much concerned, when we are going to 
electronic voting, then we should start the process 
early enough, that is immediately after the April 
elections. We should not wait until it is six weeks to 
the election then you begin to introduce something 
new, that is not fair to the people and I would love 
to know the contractor and the amount of the 
contract that was awarded, for his do-called card 
reader, and then what happens to it after the 
elections. Is it going to be used now and discarded or 
will the information remain? Since what we have 
seen is called permanent voter’s card, that reader 
must also be permanent because that is where we 
have information about me. 
“ I think we should be ready to deal with all these 
issues squarely, otherwise will be wasting a lot of 
resources unnecessarily. I believe that by now, 
after 16 years, we should be adding more, and not 
bringing new things into the system that we have 
not really been familiar with. After this election, I 
believe we should use the two weeks to correct 
whatever anomaly had been found and then by April 
11, after that election, we must begin to talk about 
what will happen in 2019: is it electronic voting ?. 
“The law says no electronic voting, but somebody 
issued the card reader and said it is only for 
accreditation. But when we say election, everything 
that has to do with it is part of that election. Alls 
these technicality, we must avoid them.” 
The Minister of State for Agriculture, Hajia Asabe 
Asma’u Ahmed, at one of the polling units, said she 
was satisfied that after initial hiccups, INEC was 
able to get it right for people to exercise their 
franchise. 
Speaking to newsmen shortly after casting her vote 
at the Uphill Polling Unit, where two former Nigerian 
military leaders, Generals Ibrahim Babangida and 
Abdulsalami Abubakar voted, the minister said, 
“After initial hiccups, they had to take card readers 
back to be re activated. For me, a number of people 
had issues. A number of people went through it for 
10 to 12 times, but on the whole, quite a number of 
people have had their verifications done and the 
process is moving along very quickly. 
“One of the good things is that somebody is taking 
note of the incidents, the incident in this case is 
the behavior of card readers. All the card readers, 
at every stage, had problems but on the whole, the 
card, in many cases, did not misbehave after the 
initial hiccups. I expect the vote itself to pass off 
peacefully.” 
In Cross River State, a lawmaker has said the 
Chairman of INEC, Prof Attahiru Jega, should be 
made to face the consequences of failure of the 
card readers. 
The House of Representatives member from Abi/ 
Yakurr Federal 
Constituency of Cross River State, Mr. Bassey Ewa 
castigated the Jega, saying he should be blamed for 
the situation. Ewa, who spoke to newsmen at his 
country home in Ekori, Yakurr Local Government of 
Cross River State flayed the conduct of the 
exercise which he said was disappointing. 
According to him, the INEC chairman has failed 
Nigerians because the card readers ought to have 
been duly tested to ascertain its functionality 
before being put to use nationwide. “Nigerians are 
ready to exercise their franchise, but let me say and 
say it very clear that we are disappointed in the way 
INEC and Jega have failed this country. 
“I hope the international community will appreciate 
the concern earlier raised by some Nigerians on the 
use of the card reader that was never tried or 
tested in any election conducted in this country. 
“This is unacceptable to us practicing politicians. 
What I have seen here touches at the very fabric of 
the existence of this country and should be frowned 
at by every Nigerian. Jega should be made to pay for
