In this regard, we are going to focus more on the urban poor.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">“These are people who depend on the informal sector to earn their livelihood. They are daily wage earners and these are people we are really going to focus more on as well as people living with disabilities,’’ she stated.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Farouq explained that aside the National Social Register, Bank Verification Numbers (BVN) and previous record of purchase of recharge cards by mobile phone owners formed part of criteria to identify Nigerians that will get the cash transfer.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">“We are also using the mobile network, people that top up their phones with maybe N100, N200. This vote was after hours of advocacy from both sides.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Dems ironically stressed a “fair trial” even they denied that kind of due process to the president in the House.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">The president’s lawyers stressed that the Dems were not ready with their case because there is no case but rather a desire for revenge because they lost the 2016 race and are likely to lose the 2020 race.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">As we earlier mentioned , here’s what you can expect from the defense and prosecution as the impeachment trial in the Senate continues to unfold.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">The defense-The president’s defense team is aggressive and their team personifies it. They have already come out swinging in their contention that no crime was committed and thus the whole thing is a charade much like past democrat distractions and time-wasters the country has endured since 2017.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">They will run into several Dem members of the Senate that want a full blown trial to cover their tails in case they decide to vote for acquittal. Given today’s vote, they won’t get it.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">But the Dems know calling witnesses is a two way street and one they could get run over on very quickly if the defense calls the original whistleblower, CIA leaker Eric Ciaramella .</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Can you imagine what a brilliant attorney like Alan Dershowitz would do to that guy on the stand?</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Little Eric would be left whimpering into his fave blankie, later cozying up in his onesie and lamenting to his stuffed animals what the mean lawyer man did to him in public.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell will be looking for the procedural and political opportunities not just to exonerate the president but to hold the Dems and their case up to national ridicule. Buhari is a human being and just like anybody, he is capable of falling ill, but our major concern is that the whole issue is now being politicised for certain interests. This is exactly what happened during late President Yar’Adua’s government. Politicians have started bargaining for power using Buhari’s health condition. If they continue like this, we are going to expose them because we work for the unity of the north first before any other thing. We are not going to allow what happened during Yar’Adua’s era to repeat itself. In the event of any eventuality, the presidency will continue to remain here in the north till 2023.<br/>

I say this because we are conversant with the propaganda currently emanating from the South-west claiming that Osinbajo has performed so much within the two months he has been acting President. They claim that he has solved a lot of problems but what some people do not realise is that Nigeria is just like a plane on autopilot. The President had already done everything before he left and what Osinbajo is currently doing is just to press some buttons here and there. The President should get the credit for whatever achievements recorded so far. They are indirectly insulting the north by insinuating that Buhari could not do what is being attributed to Osinbajo within this period.<br/>

Some people believe that the Presidency is not sincere to Nigerians on the issue of Buhari’s health status. What do you think?<br/>

I would not want to dwell on that issue because I speak on behalf of the Arewa Youth Forum for northern unity. Buhari has already transmitted the leadership of the country to the Acting President. Unfortunately, the South-west are using it against the President, forcing him to speak or make comments. We cannot have two presidents at the same time in the country. Already, there is an Acting President and he is in control of the country. Buhari is on vacation and this issue is not like that of Yar’Adua who travelled out of the country without transmitting power to the then Vice President Goodluck Jonathan. We know the people from the north who are deploying all these strategies to get Buhari out of power.<br/>

I hope you are aware of the constitutional provision that says that the Vice President takes over power if the President is no longer there?<br/>

I am aware of the constitutional provision but President Buhari will be back. We have not even given any thought to the idea that the President will not return to the country to continue with his duties. He will certainly return. The country appears divided because of the issue of Buhari’s health. But what we are telling northerners is to put away politics and work for the unity of the north. It would seem as if we do not have the love of this country at heart.<br/>

Do you consider the visits by some Nigerians to London and the reported President’s conversations with some people as really necessary since he is officially on vacation?<br/>

They have the right to visit Buhari and we have already made all the arrangements too to visit him in London. We have got the approval and any moment from now we will fly to London to greet the President.<br/>

Given the widely reported poverty level in the country, do you see Buhari contesting in 2019 and winning?<br/>

The first thing we should do is to pray for his health. On the issue of 2019, we know we are going to get a competent person from the north because it is the turn of the north to be in power. People are praying for the President, in churches and mosques in the north. These are the people who truly love this country. When 2019 comes, we will know how to tackle it. Moreover, I do not think Buhari has told anybody that he is going to contest but if he does, the chances are there that he will win. But whether Buhari or not Buhari, we are going to get a very competent person because it is the turn of the north to be in power. We will know how to tackle it in 2019. A number of APC members are among the people spreading the propaganda that Osinbajo has performed more than Buhari and strategising against the President.<br/>

How do you rate the Federal Government’s anti-corruption fight?<br/>

I actually disagree with some of the issues of government when it comes to the corruption fight. There should be transparency in the fight against corruption. For now, I believe the corruption fight is one-sided and the issue of whistle blowing will not augur well for this country. Some people will begin to point fingers at people and say they must have acquired their wealth or built their houses with ill-gotten money whereas that may not necessarily be the case. Government needs to review its operations when it comes to the fight against corruption because it is one-sided. It is like a witch-hunt of some people in the opposition. There are so many people in government and people know that they were involved in looting of this country and nobody is doing anything to them. They are walking around freely. There are many former governors who looted their states for two terms in the PDP and they switched over to the APC and they are walking freely today. That is the truth and we should be bold enough to tell the President the truth. What is happening now is that government is trying to fight corruption and corruption is busy fighting back.<br/>

What do you consider some of Buhari’s presidency impact on the north?<br/>

All Nigerians now sleep with the two eyes closed which was not possible some two years or even a year ago. Previously, before you go to church or mosque to worship, people were subjected to all forms of searches and scrutiny, but now people troop in to churches and mosques freely. That is a significant achievement. We do not believe in what I may call sectional achievements by some of our past leaders.<br/>

If you remember the late Sarduana of Sokoto, Sir Ahmadu Bello, he did not do anything in Sokoto but he worked for the entire country and Tafawa Balewa, Murtala Mohammed and the others. They all worked for the entire country. It is not like Jonathan, Obasanjo and some others who concentrated on their regions. That is selfishness. We have about 22 dams in the country and there are 19 of them located in the north and Buhari has given approval for their rehabilitation.</div>

Mr. Obasanjo said while growing up, he had the challenge of knowing his real date of birth, because his parents were illiterates.<br/>

“At early stage in my life, I had the challenge of knowing my date of birth, and my peers always asked, while in return I persisted in asking my mother, who was an illiterate and had no records,” he said.<br/>
The former president added that when he continued to pressure his mother, the information he was given by his was that she gave birth to him on an Ifo village market day.<br/>

“When I continued to put pressure on my mother, she told me that she was preparing to go to market on the said day, and went into labour, and before others could return from the market, she had given birth to me,” Mr. Obasanjo said.<br/>

Fayose made the remark, shortly after his counterpart from Bayelsa State, Seriake Dickson announced him as the new Chairman of the PDP governors’ forum, on Friday in Abuja.<br/>
<br/>
Speaking on his new role, Fayose said he accepted the responsibility to work as chairman of the Forum.<br/>
<br/>
The governor promised to work with stakeholders, including the National Assembly, to restore the glory of the PDP.<br/>
<br/>
According to Fayose, “I take this responsibility at a time the party needs somebody to stand up. I am sure you all know that we will do it to represent Nigerians well.<br/>
<br/>
“It is a call to pull the walls of Jericho down; it is a call to make a difference.<br/>
<br/>
“I want to assure you that within the next few months, the mobilisation, the consultation will be so effective and there will be a new beginning for our party – different and enriching.<br/>
<br/>
“I will take over from where he stopped. Come 2019, we will take over again; we are going to come back again.”<br/>

Earlier, Dickson while making the announcement said, “As an integral part of the discussion, the governors of our party, among ourselves, as well as those who were unavoidably absent, unanimously appointed a new PDP Governors’ Forum Chairman.<br/>

“In line with the tradition of our party, we agreed to appoint our colleague, the most senior governor in PDP, Ayodele Fayose, the governor of Ekiti as new Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum.<br/>

<br/>
Oba recently came under investigation when she was identified as one of the owners of N9bn accounts bearing the signatures of Patience.<br/>
<br/>
Sources told our correspondent that Oba, whom the EFCC has put on its watch list, allegedly possessed two valid Nigerian passports which bear two different signatures.<br/>
<br/>
A source in the EFCC said, “After we froze Patience Jonathan’s accounts a few months ago, we continued to investigate the former First Lady. We then stumbled on some accounts, which did not bear her name but had her signature.<br/>
<br/>
“We realised that one Esther Oba, who we believe is Patience’s cousin, had been operating some accounts for her. The accounts had Oba’s BVN but carried Patience’s signature. So we began investigating Oba.<br/>
<br/>
“We found out that Oba used two different passports in operating some of the accounts. The two passports are valid but carry different signatures. We immediately wrote a letter to the Nigeria Immigration Service to seek clarification.<br/>
<br/>
“Immigration confirmed that the two passports are indeed valid. They bear the same name, picture and details but different signatures. So, they have also launched an investigation into the matter. Obviously this is a case of fraud.”<br/>
<br/>
The source told our correspondent that all attempts to locate Oba had proved abortive.<br/>
<br/>
He added that the EFCC had already hired some forensic experts to study the signatures.<br/>
<br/>
He said, “Oba’s signature and that of Patience look exactly alike. But in order to build a solid case, we are hiring some forensic experts to study the signatures and give us a report which we would be able to present in court.”<br/>
<br/>
He added that due to the existence of Bank Verification Number, it had become difficult for politically-exposed persons to keep huge sums of money in their accounts.<br/>
<br/>
The detective explained that such people opened accounts with other people’s identities but used their own signatures on the accounts so that only “the sponsors” would have access to the accounts.<br/>
<br/>
Justice Mojisola Olatoregun-Ishola had recently granted an order freezing the bank accounts allegedly belonging to Patience with over N9bn lodged in them.<br/>
<br/>
While one of the former President’s wife’s accounts, domiciled in Skye Bank Plc, has a balance of $5,316.66, five other company accounts and one belonging to Oba were also frozen.<br/>
<br/>
While the companies’ accounts in six commercial banks are said to have a balance amounting to N7.4bn, Oba’s account is said to have $429,381.87 (N135,255,289.05).<br/>
<br/>
The companies are Finchley Top Homes Limited, Aribawa Aruera Reachout Foundation, Magel Resort Limited, AM-PM Global Network Limited, Pansy Oil and Gas Limited.<br/>
<br/>
Apart from the recently frozen accounts, the EFCC had, in July, frozen four company accounts with a balance of $15m.<br/>
<br/>
Patience had informed a Federal High Court in Lagos that the money in the accounts belonged to her even though the accounts did not carry her name or BVN.<br/>
<br/>
Some of the accounts were said to be operated by some domestic servants in the employ of a former Special Adviser to ex-President Jonathan on Domestic Affairs, Waripamowei Dudafa.<br/>
<br/>
The companies are Pluto Property and Investment Company Limited, Seagate Property Development and Investment Company Limited, Trans Ocean Property and Investment Company Limited and Globus Integrated Service Limited.<br/>
<br/>
The companies had, on September 15, 2016, pleaded guilty to money laundering when they were arraigned before Justice Babs Kewumi of a Federal High Court in Lagos.</div>

Okorocha, who was fielding questions from journalists in Owerri, also accused the archbishop of being a member of All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA.<br/>

He said: “Archbishop Obinna once confirmed to me that he was an APGA loyalist. I advised him to distance himself from partisan politics.”<br/>
<br/>
While urging the cleric to steer clear of partisan politics, the governor, however, insisted that “the archbishop is getting too deep into partisan politics.”<br/>
<br/>
Okorocha recalled a recent incident when Archbishop Obinna was called to pray at a function and he started asking the government to pay retirees their arrears of pension and workers salaries.<br/>
<br/>
He advised the archbishop to pray for people in authority and the government, rather than saying inciting prayers.<br/>
<br/>
Answering a question on the reports emanating from the rerun polls in Rivers State, Okorocha commended Governor Nyesom Wike for putting up a dogged fight.<br/>
<br/>
“I commend Governor Wike for doing everything possible to secure his position. He put up a good fight,” Okorocha said.<br/>

The governor was happy that the All Progressives Congress, APC, grabbed a senatorial seat, as well as some seats in the House of Representatives and the state Assembly.</div>
