Adesina said when the nation’s apex court, the Supreme Court recently pronounced the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate as due winner of Osun State gubernatorial contest, Alhaji Abubakar, a former Vice President, had chided the court, saying it should have considered “the pulse of the nation,” and reflected it in the judgment. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">According to him, that was when the jigsaw puzzle began to fall in place. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">He stated: “Where most of the challenges in the country being orchestrated by hidden hostile hands, who think such would influence the judiciary, which would consider the so-called “pulse of the nation” in arriving at judgment on the presidential poll? “Before and after the Osun State judgement, the PDP candidate had always been quick to play up negative developments in the country, the latest of which is the tendentious story by Wall Street Journal, alleging that about one thousand Nigerian soldiers had been recently killed by Boko Haram and Islamic State of West Africa terrorists, and secretly buried by Nigerian military authorities.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">“The military has duly countered the story, educating the Wall Street Journal on the hollowness of its publication. But the same can’t be said of anyone quick to believe any negative story about his country, however fictive and lacking in verity as the story could be. We argued that the preliminary objection be set down for hearing during the pre-trial."</p><p><br></p><p>In the objection, the president asked the court to dismiss Atiku’s claim that he lacked the qualification to be president on the grounds that by virtue of Section 31(5) and (6) of the Electoral Act, 2010 (as amended).</p><p><br></p><p>He said: “It is the Federal High Court or of a State that has jurisdiction to adjudicate on the grounds/complaints contained therein.”</p><p><br></p><p>The petition by President Buhari followed the suit was filed by Atiku against the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the 2019 presidential election.</p><p><br></p><p>In her reaction, the president of the Court of Appeal, Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa warned against public comments which would publicly decide presidential petitions in the court and overheat the polity.</p><p><br></p><p>Bulkachuwa said: "We therefore require the maximum cooperation of all the stakeholders, especially from the leaders of the Bar. What is your reaction to the issue of the President’s extended medical leave?<br/>

Buhari is a human being and just like anybody, he is capable of falling ill, but our major concern is that the whole issue is now being politicised for certain interests. This is exactly what happened during late President Yar’Adua’s government. Politicians have started bargaining for power using Buhari’s health condition. If they continue like this, we are going to expose them because we work for the unity of the north first before any other thing. We are not going to allow what happened during Yar’Adua’s era to repeat itself. In the event of any eventuality, the presidency will continue to remain here in the north till 2023.<br/>

I say this because we are conversant with the propaganda currently emanating from the South-west claiming that Osinbajo has performed so much within the two months he has been acting President. They claim that he has solved a lot of problems but what some people do not realise is that Nigeria is just like a plane on autopilot. The President had already done everything before he left and what Osinbajo is currently doing is just to press some buttons here and there. The President should get the credit for whatever achievements recorded so far. They are indirectly insulting the north by insinuating that Buhari could not do what is being attributed to Osinbajo within this period.<br/>

Some people believe that the Presidency is not sincere to Nigerians on the issue of Buhari’s health status. What do you think?<br/>

I would not want to dwell on that issue because I speak on behalf of the Arewa Youth Forum for northern unity. Buhari has already transmitted the leadership of the country to the Acting President. Unfortunately, the South-west are using it against the President, forcing him to speak or make comments. We cannot have two presidents at the same time in the country. Already, there is an Acting President and he is in control of the country. Buhari is on vacation and this issue is not like that of Yar’Adua who travelled out of the country without transmitting power to the then Vice President Goodluck Jonathan. We know the people from the north who are deploying all these strategies to get Buhari out of power.<br/>

I hope you are aware of the constitutional provision that says that the Vice President takes over power if the President is no longer there?<br/>

I am aware of the constitutional provision but President Buhari will be back. We have not even given any thought to the idea that the President will not return to the country to continue with his duties. He will certainly return. The country appears divided because of the issue of Buhari’s health. But what we are telling northerners is to put away politics and work for the unity of the north. It would seem as if we do not have the love of this country at heart.<br/>

Do you consider the visits by some Nigerians to London and the reported President’s conversations with some people as really necessary since he is officially on vacation?<br/>
<br/>
They have the right to visit Buhari and we have already made all the arrangements too to visit him in London. We have got the approval and any moment from now we will fly to London to greet the President.<br/>

Given the widely reported poverty level in the country, do you see Buhari contesting in 2019 and winning?<br/>

The first thing we should do is to pray for his health. On the issue of 2019, we know we are going to get a competent person from the north because it is the turn of the north to be in power. People are praying for the President, in churches and mosques in the north. These are the people who truly love this country. When 2019 comes, we will know how to tackle it. Moreover, I do not think Buhari has told anybody that he is going to contest but if he does, the chances are there that he will win. But whether Buhari or not Buhari, we are going to get a very competent person because it is the turn of the north to be in power. We will know how to tackle it in 2019. A number of APC members are among the people spreading the propaganda that Osinbajo has performed more than Buhari and strategising against the President.<br/>

How do you rate the Federal Government’s anti-corruption fight?<br/>

I actually disagree with some of the issues of government when it comes to the corruption fight. There should be transparency in the fight against corruption. For now, I believe the corruption fight is one-sided and the issue of whistle blowing will not augur well for this country. Some people will begin to point fingers at people and say they must have acquired their wealth or built their houses with ill-gotten money whereas that may not necessarily be the case. Government needs to review its operations when it comes to the fight against corruption because it is one-sided. It is like a witch-hunt of some people in the opposition. There are so many people in government and people know that they were involved in looting of this country and nobody is doing anything to them. They are walking around freely. There are many former governors who looted their states for two terms in the PDP and they switched over to the APC and they are walking freely today. That is the truth and we should be bold enough to tell the President the truth. What is happening now is that government is trying to fight corruption and corruption is busy fighting back.<br/>

What do you consider some of Buhari’s presidency impact on the north?<br/>

All Nigerians now sleep with the two eyes closed which was not possible some two years or even a year ago. Previously, before you go to church or mosque to worship, people were subjected to all forms of searches and scrutiny, but now people troop in to churches and mosques freely. That is a significant achievement. We do not believe in what I may call sectional achievements by some of our past leaders.<br/>

If you remember the late Sarduana of Sokoto, Sir Ahmadu Bello, he did not do anything in Sokoto but he worked for the entire country and Tafawa Balewa, Murtala Mohammed and the others. They all worked for the entire country. It is not like Jonathan, Obasanjo and some others who concentrated on their regions. That is selfishness. We have about 22 dams in the country and there are 19 of them located in the north and Buhari has given approval for their rehabilitation.</div>

This was revealed in a statement by his special adviser, Femi Adesina.<br />
<br />
The President left the country on January 19, 2017 for a vacation, during which he had routine medical check-ups. <br />
<br />
Adesina said that the holiday was extended based on doctors' recommendation for further tests and rest.<br />

The summit, which will be attended by Heads of State and Government from Gulf and African countries, is expected to endorse the Malabo Declaration and Action Working Plan for 2017-2019 to promote trade and economic ties.<br/>
The two-year plan seeks to implement priority projects in trade, investment, transportation, communication and energy in Africa.<br/>
In Malabo, President Buhari is also expected to hold discussions with Arab leaders, aimed at reviewing agreements to strengthen partnerships that bolster agriculture and infrastructure development in Nigeria through long term concessionary loans and technological skills transfer.<br/>
President Buhari will also explore the opportunity of the summit to seek support for the ongoing fight against Boko Haram and the humanitarian situation in the North east.<br/>

Muhammad Babandede told reporters in his office on Saturday that Nigerians should expect an announcement on the policy changes in the coming months.<br/>
<br/>
“We have submitted a memo to the president and we believe we’ll get a positive response to that soon,” Mr. Babandede said.<br/>
<br/>
The immigration chief said the review was the government’s response to several months of complaints from Nigerians and other foreign elements who said the five-year validity period is too short.<br/>
<br/>
Citizens demanded that the NIS should reverse to the old policy that Nigeria had in place before 2007. Back then, the Nigerian passport was valid for 10 years with additional five years validity for renewal.<br/>
“We have received complaints that passports only take five years,” Mr. Babandede said. “The international community is not happy, wondering why passports will only be five years.”<br/>
<br/>
“They’re saying it should be 10 years and we’re already considering that. We need to make sure that we have age validity expansion.”<br/>
<br/>
He said the current validity period was unnecessary for people above 18 years because they’re already fully grown and rarely wear a totally different look.<br/>
“For example, in some places in the world, they say if you’re below the age of 18, you can have five-year validity passport. But if you’re above the age of 18, you can have 10-year validity because your physical features may not change again within 10 years,” Mr. Babandede said.<br/>

In this interview, Chukwuma, who is the Anglican Archbishop of Enugu Ecclesiastical Province, while speaking on a number of other national issues, describes the idea of sale of national assets as shameful because, “when our forefathers acquired those assets, it was for us to build on them and not for us to sell off our birth right”. <br/>

And on ‘Wife in the Kitchen issue’, he said the President’s wife should be hailed because she, “…did not speak as a president’s wife but as an ordinary Nigerian who feels the bite of the prevailing harsh economic and socio-political situation on Nigerians.<br/>

What do you make of the current state of the Nigerian nation?<br/>
<br/>
The current state of the nation is very bad, very hard, very, very much uncertain, and people are very much discouraged and living with uncertainty, given the state of the economy and the current biting economic recession. <br/>
<br/>
People are really tired and confused about the present government. And one is, therefore, wandering where we are heading in this country. <br/>
<br/>
It has become very difficult for the common man to make three square meals a day; and salaries are not enough to help workers to cope with the harsh economic realities. The income is getting minimal even as expenditure keeps rising by the day.<br/>
<br/>
Also, the exchange rate has taken a disgraceful turn under a government that had proudly promised to make the naira equal or even stronger than the dollar. <br/>
<br/>
What about the rising state of unemployment? <br/>
<br/>
Many more of our graduates are still unemployed. Nothing is happening about that; it has all been wishful promises hence many of them indulge in crime, even as many workers are being relieved of their jobs. So, the situation has brought upon citizens, untold sadness and despondency. A look at our security is also nothing to write home about.<br/>
<br/>
In some areas there have been increased cases of kidnapping while cases of armed robbery and terrorism have continued unabated in other areas. <br/>
<br/>
However, we are grateful to God that some of the terrorists are surrendering their arms and embracing amnesty. But that notwithstanding, all is not well at all, with Nigeria. We must sound it: All is not well! Nigeria has become a very difficult place for people to exist. <br/>
<br/>
It is as if we are in captivity; and we are looking forward to God’s deliverance. In fact, one can say that Nigeria is in captivity under Buhari’s administration. So, we are still praying to God to take us back to the promise land, and I know that He will deliver us.<br/>

Do you think that the change which the ruling party and Buhari had repeatedly promised Nigerians during their campaigns is still achievable by the present administration?<br/>
<br/>
<br/>
Well, it depends on what type of change they are trying to bring in.<br/>
I heard them promise that their version of change will manifest next year. However, the change that we see now is not a good version.<br/>
<br/>
The change is of hardship and people are not comfortable at all. Right now, all I can say that is good about their sermon of change is that the situation is making Nigerians to change from their life of profligacy to prudence. To me, <br/>
Buhari’s government is a punishment, and caution to Nigerians. I think that God is trying to punish us, and at the same time caution us with the present administration, for our past recklessness and mistakes as a nation. That is why I said that it is a time of captivity – where God chose to put Nigeria into the kind of biblical captivity of Assyria and Babylon. <br/>
<br/>
And until we repent from our sins, God may not rescue us. So, it is a time for everybody to repent, in their small corners, from life of wastage, wickedness and impunity; and begin to live a life of prudence, love and patriotism.<br/>
<br/>
My understanding of the Change Begins with Me campaign is that Nigeria has come to a point where everybody should accept to begin to discipline themselves and adopt ways of righteousness and patriotism.<br/>
<br/>
But sadly, as far as the Nigerian economy is concerned, we have only experienced evil change. We have not seen any good thing in our economy. There may be a change in attitude whereby people are now being more disciplined and cautious about indulging in impunity. That is all.</div>

Buhari also commended Gov. Aminu Tambuwal for executing the project, and urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the facilities.<br/>
Tambuwal said that the houses were built as part of efforts to fulfil his campaign promises to the people.<br/>

The governor hailed Buhari for his support to the states, noting that the modest achievements were attributable to this gesture.<br/>
The Commissioner for Lands and Housing, Bello Gwiwa, said that the estate was provided with road networks, water facilities and school networks, among others.<br/>
The Senate President, Bukola Saraki and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, among others attended the event.<br/>

Lalong said this during an interview with  State House correspondents after he formally presented Chief Rotimi Akeredolu, the All Progressives Congress’s gubernatorial candidate in Ondo, to President Buhari.<br/>

According to him, Buhari is the President of Nigeria, and neither a PDP member nor INEC chairman.<br/>

“Let me say it was even wrong for them to start running to Mr President,to help them solve the problem of PDP in their party, Mr President is the President of Nigeria and he is not a member of PDP.<br/>
<br/>
“Even when we have problems in APC, we don’t run to Mr President, if he (Mimiko) has a problem in his state, he is the governor, let him stay there and resolve the matter.<br/>
<br/>
“It is a matter between PDP, and those matters are in court, so, why should you run to the President. Is the President the chief judge of Nigeria? He is not the INEC chairman either.”<br/>

Lalong, who is the Chairman of the APC Governorship campaign in Ondo, revealed that President Buhari has endorsed the candidature of Rotimi Akeredolu as APC candidate for the election.<br/>

Gov. Mohammed Abubakar of Bauchi and Gov. Badaru Abubakar of Jigawa, who were in the Presidential Villa, told the State House correspondents that they discussed security issues with President Buhari.<br/>

“We have come to confer (which is usual) with Mr President. But as you can see, I am here with the governor of Jigawa, as you know we share a border with Jigawa.<br/>
<br/>
“We have come to discuss some security concerns with the President to solicit for his support for us to effectively ensure security in the two states, this is basically what we have come to discuss,’’ Gov. Abubakar said.<br/>

On Northern governors’ trip to US, Abubakar said that the governors were invited by the United States Peace Institute based in Washington.<br/>
<br/>
According to him, the United States’ government had a great concern in the northern part of Nigeria.<br/>
<br/>
“They believe whatever situation that exists in the northern part of Nigeria have a multiplier effect on the whole nation.<br/>
<br/>
“So, if you are able to solve the problem before it becomes a national problem, it will help, we have discussed with them the root causes of insurgency and illiteracy, poverty, lack of empowerment of youth and women.<br/>
<br/>
“These are points we have discussed and the issues of IDPs in Borno, Bauchi, Taraba, Gombe.<br/>
<br/>
“They have indicated their concern for the humanitarian crisis and especially about the situation of children in the IDP camps, and we have solicited for their immediate support so that we can overcome the challenges,’’ he added.</div>
