Pro-Democracy group, the Wailing Wailers, Friday, asked President Muhammadu Buhari to honorably resign, saying yesterday’s incident in Sokoto, where placard-carrying residents mainly youths asked the visiting ex-President Goodluck Jonathan to ‘come back’ was an indication that “he (Buhari), has been rejected by the same people who massively voted him in in 2015.”

The group in a statement in Abuja, by its Acting National Publicity Secretary, Usman Abubakar, decried that given the lingering economic woes, as well as the rising inflation rate, it was glaring that President Buhari doesn’t have solution to the nation’s problems. 
 
Recall that Jonathan had visited Sokoto State to pay a condolence visit to the family of late 18th Sultan of Sokoto, Ibrahim Dasuki. 
 
The late Sultan is the father of the incarcerated ex-National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki, who served under ex-President Jonathan. 
 
The statement read: “We are calling on President Muhammadu Buhari for the second time within the week to honorably resign and return back to his farm in Daura for retirement. 
 
“It is glaring that Mr. President does not have any solution to the lingering economic woes, hardship and suffering that has befallen the country. We cannot continue to take it that all is well when the economic situation in the country is critically disastrous. 
 
“Just days ago, reports showed that Nigeria’s inflation has risen to 11 years record breaking 18.3%. In the history of Nigeria, the last time we experienced hyper inflation, depression, recession and famine was when Buhari brutally upset a civil rule and took over powers in 1984. 
 
“The repeat of 1984 brutal and violent rulership is panning out in 2016, it is quite unfortunate that students of history jettisoned all they knew about Buhari and packaged him as a reformed democrat. We are happy in a way that all those that propped him up and elevated him to Aso Rock are now in deep regret. 
 
“Those that supported him out of ethnic and religious sentiments are now aware of the gravest mistake as Hunger, Starvation and poverty does not respect ethnic group or religion, but, it is being exerted on all and sundry. It is in evidence that Nigerian people are totally ill-fated with Buhari. 
 
“This is why we are calling out that Mr President should tow a very noble and honorable path by resigning and hand over powers to the National Assembly. 
 
“We called for his resignation on Tuesday, little did we know that the Sokoto and other Northern states’ people are also demanding his resignation. 
 
“This was obviously demonstrated when the former President of Nigeria, Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan paid a condolence visit to sympathize with the family of the late Dasuki, in Sokoto State. It is on reports that the residents thronged out in their thousands with placards chanting “Baba Jonathan Please Come Back.” 
 
“Truthfully speaking, if the country is moving in the right direction, no one will care about the rejected stone, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan. Since Buhari came to power, it has been one bad policy or the other, it has been brutal enforcements of one unworkable policy or the other. 
 
“Time is fast spent, the economy is chattered beyond redeemable levels and the entire system is in tatters. we enjoin all Nigerians to rise up from docility and demand for #BuhariMustGo. 
 
“Leadership should not be a do or die affair, it should not also be a matter of forceful foisting of oneself on Nigerians as though we do not have rights to demand for removal or impeachment of a failed president. 
 
“We are making this call because we want Nigerians to begin again to experience good economy devoid of recession and spiral downturn and wide spread of poverty.” 
 
“Nigerians do not deserve alarmists, propagandists and genocidists to seize the leadership of this great country. We must look for noble men of worthy characters to lead our nation. 
 
“We are also using this medium to sensitize Nigerian youths to rise up in unity to the occasion and begin to think of replacing some of the old people who want to perpetuate themselves and their lineage in power. If they say the youths are the leaders of tomorrow, the question is, when will the tomorrow be? If youths themselves sit back without taking action? Now, we declare that tomorrow is now and Nigerian youths must now arise in strength for the good of our people and the nation.”</div>

Patience, who hails from Benue State, went missing on August 12, 2015. But reprieve came the way of the kidnapped girl and her family after the Sokoto State governor, Alhaji Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, ordered an investigation into the matter, which resulted in her release and subsequent reunion with her family. 
 
LEADERSHIP gathered from Patience that her abductor and some Hisbah (Sharia police) personnel had taken her to an imam in Runjin Sambo area of Sokoto with a claim that she wanted to convert to Islam. 
 
Patience said, “I was sent to buy biscuits and on my way I saw him (her abductor) and he persuaded me to come to his bungalow.” 
 
The primary six pupil disclosed that she was not forced into marriage but that her abductor turned her into a sex slave at the house of the Sarkin Baki. 
 
“Yes, he was forcefully making love to me any time he wanted,” she answered to a question on whether she was sexually abused. “They first took me to Sarkin Baki house, and kept me there for seven months before my parents came looking for me. 
 
“They gave me something to drink, but I refused to take the drink, and they took me to one room and locked me inside the room. 
 
“They forcefully made me to turn to Muslim and gave me another name, Aisha. Some people wanted to marry me, but the Sarkin Baki refused and said until I finish Islamic school before they marry me off. 
 
Addressing a press conference in Kaduna, a lawyer with a Jos, Plateau State-based non-governmental organisation (NGO), Voice for the Girl’s Child Foundation (VGCF), Barrister Ezekiel Dyagas, who helped in securing Patience’s release, said he was briefed about her case on March 1, 2016, by her brother. 
 
Barrister Dyagas said: “Her brother, who is here with me, has been up and doing since the family realised that the little girl was missing and eventually abducted by one of her neighbours.” 
 
“I promised the family to give me 48 hours and we would be able to trace her whereabouts. I posted her story on the website and you will not believe the response I got. 
 
“Within that 48 hours I was talking to the Sokoto State governor, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal, and I told the girl’s brother that the governor will call him,” he said. 
 
The lawyer praised Tambuwal for ensuring the girl was released to her family. 
 
“In fact, the governor not only called, but he played a vital role towards the freeing of Patience. He acted as a father and we appreciate his role. In short, he was instrumental to her eventual release. 
 
“As I am talking to you, those behind her abduction in Sokoto had been arrested and are going to face prosecution soon,” he said. 
 
He also declared that he is taking the young girl to Benue State on Tuesday on the request of the state government who had also shown interest in her case. 
 
“Since, the commencement of the saga, I have had contact with the state commissioner for women affairs and youth development, and I will not tell you what the state government had promised to do for Patience. If you want to verify, you can call the commissioner. 
 
Patience’s elder brother, Isaac Paul, 28, who had just graduated from the University of Sokoto and is awaiting NYSC call-up, thanked Nigerians for assisting the family to recover their daughter. 
 
He said their mother was late while their father worked as a steward in Sokoto, adding that Patience is the sixth child in the family of nine. 
 
Paul also thanked journalists and the Sokoto State government for wiping their tears, just as he noted that the Benue State government had promised to enrol Patience in school.</div>

Buhari spoke in Sokoto on Saturday when he inaugurated the Kalambaina 500 housing estate built by the state government at the cost N4.8 billion. 
 
According to him, in spite of the challenges, we are determined to overcome them and fight corruption. 
“The administration will continue to bring development to Nigerians, improve security and welfare of Nigerians.” 
 
The president noted that Nigeria had in the early 1960s witnessed reputable peace, culture of discipline and commitment to national development. 
“Unfortunately, the situation had changed now, but we are committed to taking Nigeria to greatness. 
“The relevance of the caliphate in the scheme of things in Nigeria cannot be over emphasised,” 
 
Buhari added. 
Buhari further stressed the need to give all Nigerians equal opportunities for self actualisation. 
The President also urged Nigerians to continue to work for sustainable peace, unity and socioeconomic progress of the country. 
The President commended the Sultan of Sokoto for being a fearless and tireless peacemaker and bridge builder within and outside Nigeria. 
He also hailed the sustained support and cooperation of the traditional rulers and the state governments to the Federal Government. 
Buhari also commended Gov. Aminu Tambuwal for executing the project, and urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the facilities. 
Tambuwal said that the houses were built as part of efforts to fulfil his campaign promises to the people. 
 
The governor hailed Buhari for his support to the states, noting that the modest achievements were attributable to this gesture. 
The Commissioner for Lands and Housing, Bello Gwiwa, said that the estate was provided with road networks, water facilities and school networks, among others. 
The Senate President, Bukola Saraki and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, among others attended the event.

This is coming following the defeat of the PDP candidates at the just concluded local government election in Sokoto state. 
 
APC said the local councils’ election which held in Sokoto State on Saturday, March 12, 2016 was free, fair and credible, and met national and international standards required for conducting elections. 
 
 
 
“That all observers who monitored the election have adjudged it as free, fair and credible. That the State Independent Electoral Commission deserves commendation from all stakeholders for maintaining its integrity throughout the preparations and the eventual conduct of the election 
 
“That the Sokoto state government, under the leadership of governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal CFR, Mutawallen Sokoto, should be commended for providing the enabling environment for Sokoto SIEC to conduct the election without any hitch. 
 
“That there was no any incidence of intimidation or harassment of party agents or supporters in any local government area of Sokoto State before, during and after the elections.” 
 
APC said rather than mobilize the few supporters PDP had in Sokoto State for the election, it said the PDP resorted to cheap blackmail by impugning on the integrity of respected individuals and institutions in the state. 
 
 
“That insulting the media, the electoral umpire and the security agencies, exposed the PDP as desperate, and unworthy of the trust of the people of Sokoto State. That after 16 years of shallow leadership, Nigerians booted PDP out of power in the 2015 general election. What happened in Sokoto was the reaffirmation of the state’s rejection of the PDP. Whether in 2015 or 2016, PDP has no place in Sokoto State. 
 
APC said rather than issue inciting statement, the PDP should join hands with the APC-led administration of President Muhammadu Buhari at the Federal level and governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal at the state level to deliver democracy dividends to the people.</div>

Patience’s parents had reported her missing since August 12, 2015, with unconfirmed reports suggesting she was kidnapped and taken to the palace of the sultan of Sokoto for forceful conversion. 
 
 Aminu Tambuwal, the state governor, ordered investigation into the saga after it became a media item during the week. Patience, who was 14 at the time of her abduction, was found on Friday night at the house of one Malam Ibrahim, who calls himself Sarkin Baki (“king of strangers”).

“The Sokoto State Human Rights Commission, along with the team set up by the police, questioned suspects and detained three persons in connection with the issue.” 
 Some hisbah (Sharia police) personnel had taken Patience to an imam in Runjin Sambo area of Sokoto with a claim that she wanted to convert to Islam. 
 
 “Weighty decision” 
The imam asked of her age and was told she was 14. He sought the opinion of the Sultanate Council who directed the imam not to proceed because she was underage and could not make such a “weighty decision” yet. 
 
He was instructed to let her go, but the Imam then informed the hisbah. Rather than let her return to her family house, they took her to the Sarkin Baki who claims he provides residence to indigent persons. 
 
 The “king of strangers” then kept her in his house since September. 
 
 
When investigators met with him Friday night, Patience was seen with his other children and family members. He claimed he adopted the girl because he didn’t want to let her be with the hisbah. He, however, allowed her to be attending both Islamic and government junior secondary school for her education. 
 
A police source told TheCable that when interviewed, Patience claimed she was afraid of returning home because of possible reprisal from her siblings. The alarm Paul Isaac Adaji, father of the teenager, had raised the alarm about her daughter’s disappearance, but it did not gain traction until the case of Oruru started playing out. Adaji, an Idoma from Benue state, said his daughter was forcefully abducted by hisbah in Gidan Kukah, Runjin Sambo area Sokoto, on August 12, 2015. 
 
 Tambuwal, in a statement issued by his spokesman, Imam Imam, directed that the matter be investigated. The inspector general of police then took up the matter.</div>
