MESSAGE: 
 
In Genesis 1:1-3, the Holy Spirit takes us back in time to the beginning of God’s creation. In this account, we are introduced to the voice of God for the very first time. All He said here was “Let there be light”, and light immediately appeared. That simple sound from Heaven instantly got rid of darkness. “Let there be light” could mean several things to different people, but basically it means “darkness depart!” In our Bible text, we read of a man who was born blind. He heard that Jesus was passing by, and so he began to cry to the Lord for mercy. He desired to hear a sound from Heaven, and he did all within his power to actualise his desire. “What can I do for you?” Jesus asked, and he answered, saying “Lord, I want my sight restored”. The voice from Heaven sounded “Receive your sight”, and immediately darkness gave way to light. Similarly, in Mark 5:1-15, the mad man of Gadara who had over 6000 demons living inside him had the opportunity of hearing a sound from Heaven. After he heard it, all those demonic forces in him promptly took their leave. Is your life surrounded now by the powers of darkness? I release the sound from Heaven to you: demonic powers and every form of darkness in your life depart now in the mighty Name of Jesus! 
 
Prior to the sounding of the voice from Heaven in Genesis 1:3, there was so much chaos on earth; but immediately it sounded, light appeared and the first day was created. A young man once testified to his encounter with the creative power of the sound from Heaven. He was not only born blind, he also had no eye balls and his eye sockets were empty. One day, a great evangelist organised a week-long crusade in his area, and people daily led him there. On the first night of this crusade, the man of God preached about the creative power of God, and the blind man’s faith rose. “This is exactly what I need”, he said, but he went home still blind. The following morning, while washing his face, he discovered that his eye sockets which used to be very cold because blood never flowed through them now had some warmth. On the second day of the crusade, still nothing happened. But on waking up the following day, in those empty sockets, he felt something bulging. On that third day of the crusade, he heard a sound from Heaven saying “You can now open your eyes”, and his eyes were opened. Are your eyes physically shut? The sound from Heaven is saying “Open your eyes now!” Are you spiritually blind? The Lord of Heaven is saying to you, “Eyes be opened now!”

That seems to be the thought of many people today, who haven’t been officially married according to courthouse documents. However, God does not recognize people living together as being married. 
 
The woman at Jacob’s well told Jesus, “I have no husband.” Jesus replied, “You have well said, ‘I have no husband’; for you have had five husbands, and the one whom you now have is not your husband. What you have said is quite true.” (John 4:17-18). If living together made her married, Jesus would have said, “The man you are now living with is your sixth husband.” Instead, He did not recognize them as being married even though they were living together. 
 
Hebrews 13:4 says, “Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled; for fornicators and adulterers God will judge.” “Fornication” is when a single person has sex without being married, while “adultery” is a married person having sex with someone who is not the spouse. If “living together” (having sex) made a person married, then there would be no sin of “fornication.” God says He will judge those who defile the marriage bed by living together. 
 
Some people have argued that living together is the best preparation for marriage. They reason that cohabiting gives them a trial period, to see if they are compatible. However, statistics show that people who live together before they get married have a much higher divorce rate than those who don’t. If someone doesn’t respect the commitment to another before marriage, why would he respect the commitment after marriage? 
 
A father once told his son that he was displeased that he was living with his girlfriend. His son said, “Dad, what difference does a marriage license make? It’s just a piece of paper.” His father went over to the filing cabinet and pulled out his will. He said, “Son, in my will I have left all my earthly possessions to you when I die.” Then the father tore up the will. His son, watching in horror, said, “Dad, what are you doing? Are you leaving me out of your will just because I’m living with my girlfriend without getting married?” His father replied, “Don’t worry, son. It’s just a piece of paper.” 
 
That marriage license is not just a “piece of paper.” The license is a legal contract, proving that you have committed yourselves together in marriage. If you have sex the day beforeyou get married, it would be forbidden by God. But if you have sex one hour after you get married, it would blessed by God. 
 
What’s the difference? What constitutes marriage in God’s eyes?

Marriage is a covenant made 
 
before God, 
to each other, 
in eyes of society 
according to the laws of the land. 
 
God says that He witnesses the covenant that a couple makes when they get married. “The Lord has been a witness between you and the wife of your youth...(who) is your companion and your wife by covenant" (Malachi 2:14). A covenant is a contract, agreed upon by two parties. It is a commitment that has a beginning point, and consequences for breaking it. 
 
What about a man and woman living together, but not having sex? 
 
This also would not be right for a couple of reasons. 
Living together opens you to temptation. Even if you aren’t having sex now, the likelihood is increased by living together. 
Other people will naturally assume that you are having sex, which damages your reputation. If you are a Christian, this destroys your witness. 
God wants to bless your life, but it must be on His terms. First, He wants you to know Him through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Second, He wants you to stop having sexual relations with someone who is not your spouse. No matter what immorality you have done in your past, God can cleanse you through the blood of Jesus. Then, as Jesus told the woman caught committing adultery, “Go and sin no more” (John 8:11).</div>

While some Bible scholars explain the extremely bizarre verses by being mere metaphors or specific historical context, others are not so sure about ambiguity of the passages of scripture and interpret them rather literally. There are just some of the verses that desperately need to be justified as soon as possible: 
 
 
 
1) 2 Kings 2:23-24; New International Version (NIV) 
 
From there Elisha [the prophet] went up to Bethel. As he was walking along the road, some boys came out of the town and jeered at him. “Get out of here, baldy!” they said. “Get out of here, baldy!” He turned around, looked at them and called down a curse on them in the name of theLord. Then two bears came out of the woods and mauled forty-two of the boys. 
 
Does that mean God hates children mocking his prophets and even sends bears to attack them for being rude? 
 
 
 
2) 1 Samuel 15:3 (NIV) 
 
“Now go, attack the Amalekites and totally destroy all that belongs to them. Do not spare them; put to death men and women, children and infants, cattle and sheep, camels and donkeys.” 
 
Is this gruesome verse endorsing genocide? 
 
 
 
3) Psalm 137:9 (NIV) 
 
“Happy is the one who seizes your infants and dashes them against the rocks.” 
 
Is the Bible encouraging brutal murder of children? 
 
 
 
4) Deuteronomy 13:6-9 (NIV) 
 
“If your very own brother, or your son or daughter, or the wife you love, or your closest friend secretly entices you, saying, “Let us go and worship other gods” (gods that neither you nor your ancestors have known, gods of the peoples around you, whether near or far, from one end of the land to the other), do not yield to them or listen to them. Show them no pity. Do not spare them or shield them. You must certainly put them to death. Your hand must be the first in putting them to death, and then the hands of all the people.” 
 
Is the Bible calling to kill loved ones instead of being tolerant and merciful? 
 
 
 
5) Leviticus 11:10 (NIV) 
 
“But all creatures in the seas or streams that do not have fins and scales — whether among all the swarming things or among all the other living creatures in the water — you are to regard as unclean.” 
 
Eating shrimps, lobsters or crayfish is sinful? 
 
 
 
6) 1 Timothy 2:12 (NIV) 
 
“I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man; she must be quiet.” 
 
Is the Bible openly promoting sexism and gender inequality? 
 
 
 
7) Matthew 19:24 (NIV) 
 
“Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.” 
 
Does that mean as long as you are poor you can enter heaven easily and if you are prosperous prepare yourself for hellfire? 
 
 
 
8) Jeremiah 9:19 (NIV) 
 
“I will make them eat the flesh of their sons and daughters, and they will eat one another’s flesh because their enemies will press the siege so hard against them to destroy them.” 
 
Cannibalism, seriously? 
 
 
 
9) 1 Peter 2:18 (NIV) 
 
“Slaves, in reverent fear of God submit yourselves to your masters, not only to those who are good and considerate, but also to those who are harsh.” 
 
The Bible promotes slavery? 
 
 
 
10) Leviticus 19:27 (NIV)

A preacher ,Abdulaziz Dauda, popularly known as Inyass, was on Tuesday,sentenced to death by hanging after he was convicted of blaspheming Prophet Mohammed. 
 
The trial was conducted in camera at the Kano higher sharia court . Inyass was arrested on August 18, 2015 in Abuja and brought to Kano to face trial on a two-count charge of blasphemy and inciting crisis. Hundreds of Muslim youths had burnt the sharia court located at Rijiyar Lemo area of Kano in protest against the “blasphemous comments” allegedy made by Inyass, a leader of the Tijjaniyya sect. He reportedly committed the offence at the Maulud festivity on June 31, 2015. 
 
 Counsel to the state government, Lamido Abba Soron Dinki, said five witnesses, including the police, testified before the court. Dauda’s counsel, who concealed his identity, refused to comment on the judgment. Nine suspected accomplices were sentenced to death by the same court which delayed further judgement against Inyass. He was at large at the time of the initial trial. They all have the right to appeal against the death sentence.
