Abia Facts Newspaper gathered that Seven men in two Hilux Jeeps early this morning at about 6.00am stormed his Uyo residence and whisked him away in the presence of his wife and little daughter without disclosing the reason for his arrest and their destination. 
 
 
 
The men took away his Laptops, his phones, his wife’s phones and every digital device in sight after ransacking their apartment. 
 
Though the DSS has not confirmed his arrest, a source in DSS office Uyo said that the Presidency is not happy with Anyalekwa over IGBERE TV’s persistent pro Biafra publications. 
 
State Security Service should please release him now.</div>

According to him, most communities especially surrounding mountainous villages of Ngoshe, Ashigashiya, Barawa and other border communities with Cameroon Republic are strictly under the control of the sect members, lamenting that over “10,000 persons are still trapped in Mandara Mountains (Bayan Dutse), 
 
He spoke while reacting to a statement credited to the Senate Leader Mohammed Ndume, who also hails from Gwoza, calling on IDPs to return without waiting for government directive. 
 
The Emir insisted that the so-called liberation of Gwoza communities hitherto under Boko Haram control by troops was only visible on the pages of newspapers. 
 
He noted that those who took courage and returned to resettle in Gwoza town could not move out of the community, as they were likely to fall into the hands of insurgents that still surrounded the town without confrontation. 
 
The Royal Father spoke to Vanguard yesterday at one of the resettlement camps in Maiduguri, few days after visiting Gwoza town. 
Muhammadu succeeded his Late father, Idrissa Timta who was assassinated by Boko Haram in May, 2014 on his way to attend funeral ceremony of the late emir of Gombe State. 
 
He lamented that no traditional ruler would like to stay away for a long time from his domain together with his over 300,000 subjects displaced, but as Allah (God) had destined it, he had no excuse. 
 
According to him, those agitating for return of IDPs to their communities, especially those from Gwoza were only doing so to expose the already traumatized people to further attacks. 
 
The Traditional ruler revealed that last week, before proceeding to Gwoza with the Deputy Governor, Alhaji Usman Durkwa, he was among those who on that same day accompanied the two emirs of Askira and Uba who recently relocated back to their domain after spending two years in Maiduguri. Regretting that the level of destruction of lives and properties in Gwoza alone, was far more than what obtainable in neighbouring Askira and Uba, now free from Boko Haram occupation.

But they were not. The PDP was the country’s ruling party for 16 years and is in possession of an expansive institutional memory to benefit our democracy. 
 
The PDP, as the country’s leading opposition party, has a formidable structure to help keep the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in check. 
 
But, as the APC marked its first anniversary in power, the absence of the opposition was very glaring. Instead of articulating its own informed scorecard of the APC Federal Government at this important milestone, the leaders of the PDP were enmeshed in a complex leadership tussle for the control of its future. 
 
The squabbles saw the leadership fragmented into at least four factions claiming authority at the national level. The factions included those led by Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, who was sacked as the interim national chairman by officials at the recent convention of the party in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. 
 
The second group was led by Senator Ahmed Makarfi, who was appointed as the chairman of a caretaker committee at the convention. A third tendency was the collegiate leadership centered on the founding fathers of the party including Prof. Jerry Gana and Senator Ibrahim Mantu, among others. A fourth group coalesced around the Board of Trustees (BoT) which claimed to have intervened to stop the fragmentation. 
 
The seeming crisis in the PDP is of concern to watchers of our democracy in Nigeria because we need strong alternative political parties to strengthen our multi party system and keep the current party in power on its toes. 
 
The many mistakes that the PDP made as a governing party took place because of the absence of any virile opposition party. We, as a nation, should avoid the mistake of having one dominant ruling party, as this predisposes those in power to impunity and corruption as experience has shown. When this is the case, it is the ordinary people that suffer the misrule more. 
 
We urge both the ruling party and the other political parties to strengthen their internal processes and give their political outfits the character, distinct identity and vision that will give Nigerians real choice when next we go to the polls. 
 
Seventeen years after the military left the political scene, party politics should have grown beyond the mere tussle for power or posts. It should now be more about where each political party wishes to take Nigeria and how they want to achieve it. 
 
This can only happen if our politicians learn from their mistakes and build on areas where they have done well.

Yesterday, the photos of President Buhari meeting with the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, surfaced on social media. This came after the revered clergyman’s statement on the integrity of the Nigerian president. 
 
The heartwarming photos sparked conversation on social media and one of those who spoke out was iconic comedian, Ali Baba. The comedian posted the photos on his Instagram page and cheekily accused the president of trying to ‘Christianise’ Nigeria. 
 
“Buhari is trying to Christianize Nigeria!!!! Look at these pictures,” he said, referencing the old notion that the President would Islamise Nigeria.

Recall that in February of this year, Governor Ayo Fayose, while speaking at an interdenominational thanksgiving in Port Harcourt, accused President Buhari of trying to Islamise the country, a claim he made after the photos of the President in Saudi Arabia surfaced. Gov Fayose called it the ‘big secret’ about the Buhari led, APC government, and said that the President will fail in that effort. 
 
“Why did five of them (state governors) go to Saudi Arabia to wait for our man there (referring to President Buhari) if they don’t have agenda?” The Governor asked, adding, “They have started subtle moves to make Nigeria an Islamic nation, but God will stop them. This was done in 1984, it failed, it would fail again.” 
 
“The agenda is coming small small, but we will resist it,” the vocal politician continued. “Nigeria is a free nation where we proclaim the name of Jesus Christ freely, and we believe in Allah for those who are Muslims. This nation will not be taken for an Islamic nation.”

The report is expected to be part of his speech on that day recognised as Nigeria’s Democracy Day. 
 
In an interview with Channels Television in the UK, where he took part in the London Anti-Corruption Summit, President Buhari said: “So far, what has come out, what has been recovered, in whatever currency, from which ministry, department and individuals, I intend on the 29th to speak on this because all that Nigerians are getting to know are from the newspapers, radio and television. 
 
“We want to make a comprehensive report by May 29”. 
 
 
On whether the names of the corrupt government officials or those indicted would be published, he said it would eventually be done. 
 
“We want to successfully prosecute them. But you know you can’t go to the court unless you have the documents to do your prosecutions – where some of these people sign for these monies, send it to their personal bank accounts. 
 
“Their banks gave a statement that the money is there when it came how much of it available and so on”. 
 
Never Heard The Word ‘Padding’ 
 
On the 2016 budget and the delay that had characterised its processing, he pointed out that if he had not uncovered the padding of the budget, corruption would have crept into the budget, blaming it on technocrats. 
 
“I never heard the word ‘padding’ until this year. I never heard about it. And what does it mean? 
 
“It means that the technocrats just allow the government to make its noise, go and make presentation to the National Assembly so they will remove it and put their own. So, when we uncovered this, we just have to go back to the basics again,” he told Channels Television’s correspondent, Chukwuma Onuekwusi. 
 
 
 
President Buhari also made comments on security issues, fight against Boko Haram, increasing herdsmen attacks on communities, militancy in the Niger delta and what will happen to those bowing up gas pipelines in the oil-rich region. 
 
He stressed that he had asked the Chief of Naval staff and other Service Chiefs to work together and make sure that those blowing up installations and subverting the investment in Nigeria would be dealt with eventually. 
 
“When I was in the Petroleum Trust Fund, we made a comprehensive study of cattle routes and grazing areas through Nigeria. I am referring the Governors’ Forum and the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development to it. Let them see what they can do and save the situation. 
 
“There seem to be some credibility to the fact that there are other than Nigerian cattle rearers involved,” he said, linking the development to the crisis in Libya. 
 
“Now this is because of what happened in Libya. When Gaddafi during his 43-year regime, he trained some people from the Sahel… Militarily, he trained them. 
 
“When his regime was overthrown, those people were again dispatched to their countries. They are gone, carrying their weapons and they found themselves even in Boko Haram,” he explained. 
 
President Buhari further said that the increasing herdsmen attacks on communities in Nigeria had become a governmental project, with the government ready to “trace them, disarm them and if necessary try them and discipline them”. 
 
President Buhari had during the London Anti-Corruption Summit requested for the repatriation of funds that had been stolen and taken to the UK by past government officials.</div>

In that piece, the ace journalist and public affairs commentator successfully defines the tri-polarities governing public responses to the Muhammadu Buhari administration. The take-away is that the biggest challenge that Nigeria faces at the moment is political partisanship, which has divided the country into the camps of rights and wrongs and a fierce and bitter contestation over who is right or wrong. 
One year after the last Presidential election that led to the exit of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), after 16 years in office and power (sorry, the 60 years project failed) and the exit also, of the Goodluck Jonathan administration, there is now a bitter fight out there on the streets over whether or not Nigerians took the right decision by voting for change, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Muhammadu Buhari. President Goodluck Jonathan’s over 12.8 million supporters have proven to be loyal and indeed that they exist as a serious, organized political force. 
They have wasted no muscle, saliva or emotion in slyly reminding Nigerians generally that the electorate didn’t think properly about the choices they made in the 2015 general elections. President Buhari gained 15.4 million plus supporters in that election and they too are not ready to abandon their choice. And as Adeniyi brilliantly points out, you have the Buharideens, whose devotion to the incumbent is at the level of passion, religion and ethnicity. Adeniyi forgot to mention the Jonathanians (I wonder why) who afraid of persecution, have since laid low strategically, but are now beginning to show their hands, as a new contest for the public mind begins, close to the first anniversary of the Buhari administration in power. 
My tentative take is that there is too much ego, passion and self-righteousness out there on the streets. Add the reverse triumphalism of the defeated PDP. Well, scratch that. Add opportunism. You may scratch that too. Add didn’t-we-tell-you-the-change-you-sought-was-nothing-but-one-chance? Now, scratch that and replace with the other group saying you-thieves-should-go-hide-your-heads-in-shame. Hmmm, scratch that quickly and replace with all-of-us-na-barawo-una-go-see-wetin-we-go-do-to-you-when-we-come-back. Now don’t scratch this completely, leave some of the ink, and replace with there-is-no-vacancy-here-na-joke-una-dey-joke-because-we-know-corruption-is-trying-to-fight-back. Now, come on, scratch everything and replace with the realization that Nigeria today is entrapped in a vicious power game, a muddled integrity game and a desperate one-upmanship, my-car-is-better-than-yours game. It is as if the election has not ended, it is as if we are still in the season of political campaigns. 
I blame the APC strategists for allowing things to remain at this level. They have failed to see the need to move quickly from campaign to governance mode. They are also behaving as if they are under the spell of Karma. The PDP wailers are tying them down, with taunts, forcing them to still campaign after the election. They have now pushed them to become defensive, the exact place where the PDP was more than a year ago, but it is worse, as the APC and its agents have become irritable. The result is that the APC and its government are beginning to over-react to every little provocation. They used to accuse the Jonathan government of being reactive rather than pro-active (I never agreed), but that is what they are doing now, and it is worse according to current testimonies. They who used to be regarded as the masters of this kind of game are losing grip of it. 
Today’s men are thus making precisely the same mistakes we made, if we may charitably say so, and if they continue this way, and do not quickly change the narrative, their tactics and their strategy, they may with their own hands unwittingly prepare the grounds for the hobbling of their own government. They have already made one big additional mistake, which the Jonathan government didn’t make: they are forcing the people to look back. They are forcing the people to check the dictionary for the meaning of change and to start asking simple questions. They are practically motivating the people to be nostalgic. The kind of compare-and-contrast narrative that is determining prevalent sentiments is ironic at all levels. 
A fellow that should professionally qualify as an idiot even asked the other day: who is thinking for this government? The truth is that there are always people thinking for government but they are mostly the wrong people, exploiting primordial advantages rather than natural and trained gifts. But the worse that has happened in the shape of an own goal is the APC fighting itself. This is too Karmic, and too much of a repetition of recent history, to be true. When Asiwaju Bola Tinubu called out Dr Ibe Kachikwu on the management of the lingering nationwide scarcity of fuel, and the latter’s response to public angst – that was a deadly own goal. When the administration puts Senate President Bukola Saraki in the dock, and treats him like a renegade, that is another own goal. The seemingly intractable scarcity of fuel and foreign exchange and the rising cost of everything is the biggest own goal, in addition to the open denial of promises made to the people. In our time, there were persons who used to wonder whenever certain things occurred if the Jonathan government was not under a metaphysical spell; perhaps, it is possible for a government to be under spells: man-made and induced. We have been told, for example, that government is not a magician, credited to Dr Ibe Kachikwu, the Minister of State for Petroleum/GMD NNPC but is anyone aware that another government spokesperson had actually said President Buhari never promised to perform magic, weeks before Kachikwu echoed the same point?. Check that, and reflect on the point about magical spells. 
I bring up these points merely to provoke further thought. In the last one year, certain specific lessons have been learnt, and you don’t need a Ph.D to know this, just check with the ordinary man on the street. Lesson one: change doesn’t mean transformation. The change of form is not the same as the change of content or style. Lesson two: politicians are the same, no matter the label. Lesson three: it is not easy to run Nigeria. The challenges, year after year, government after government, party after party, are basically the same. Lesson four: it is easy to criticize; it is not as easy to govern. Lesson five: every party or government in power has skeletons in the cupboard and ghosts in their courtyard. Lesson six: the contest for power in Nigeria is a permanent struggle at the heart of the national question. Lesson seven: Nigeria is a country in search of good men and heroes. Lesson eight: the love of government, religion or the kinsman, is not the same as patriotism. Lesson nine: truth can be relative. Lesson ten: politicians in Nigeria are who they are: whores. Lesson eleven: small things matter most. 
These propositions are organically contradictory to the extent that they provoke further interrogations. They could generate egotism, unnecessary contestation, bile and argumentation. We do not need that right now. Those who voted, not necessarily for the APC, but for President Muhammadu Buhari saw him as a game changer and a statesman, who having nothing at stake other than love of country, will move the country forward. The grievances in the land are directed at him. The people may not know APC but they know Buhari. They placed their bet on him. They want answers from him. Olusegun Adeniyi says he should not lose the popularity that brought him to power, but he does not tell us how. I suspect that the answer lies in President Buhari insisting that Nigeria must come first. The Manichean approach to governance that has remained dominant for almost one year has divided the country right down the middle, vertically and horizontally, creating camps of disaffection that government does not need. The effect may not yet have been seen, but it is that latent effect that will on the long run, determine the fortunes of the Buhari administration. The time has come for President Buhari to take another look at the tea leaves and ask the forces of division to put Nigeria first. 
He came into office as a legacy figure and statesman. He assumed office not as a man seeking history but as a man of history. His remit is to deepen that history and his credentials as a legacy figure and statesman. Those who are reducing his tenure to a competition with the immediate past as justification and platform miss this point and they have seen enough contradictions on display to realize the limitations of their strategy just in case there is one. There is only one valid strategy for a man with Buhari’s antecedents: sustained connection with the popular will. President Olusegun Obasanjo managed that very well during his first term (1999 -2003) and President Goodluck Jonathan is gaining back whatever he may have lost – his individual heroism and the failure of the APC ‘s post-election tactics, have shed useful light on his achievements in office via the force of inevitable comparison. 
I believe that the Buhari government has reached that moment when it must review its house-keeping tactics. One option is for the President to move beyond the APC and run a government of national unity. He must search far more widely for meaning, purpose and inclusivity at the levels of thought and policy options. He needs to run a government that shows that it has since gone beyond elections, and seeks to build a nation. One year is gone, so he has very short time. The best assessment of the last one year in office cannot even be done by him, his staff or pundits. He only needs to listen to the anonymous man on the street from Kano to wherever. The people will always speak, and they must be heard, and as the Buhari government approaches its first year in office, the people are speaking louder than ever. Nigerians may be implacable, but when they begin to murmur, it is better to listen. If anyone tells President Buhari that it is the PDP making such noise, let him not believe such persons. If they tell him there is a Jonathanian cabal fighting him, he should tell such persons to try another line because that particular song is beginning to sound too familiar. There may be no magic to governance, but there is certainly serious magic in statecraft. Mr. President, the past is in the mirror.

Anthony Akah, the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the commission disclosed this while signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the Consumer Protection Council (CPC). 
 
In a statement issued on the ceremony by Usman Abba-Arabi, Head, Public Affairs Department of NERC, on Wednesday, Mr. Akah expressed dissatisfaction and worries over the spate of vandalism in the power sector. 
It stated that the NERC boss enjoined the public and the CPC to collaborate with Distribution Companies (DISCOs) and security agencies to safeguard electrical installations. 
 
The statement also said that the NERC would soon compel the DISCOs to publish their meter deployment schedules. 
It added that the publication would ensure adherence to the meter roll out plan contained in the performance agreement signed with government by the utility firms. 
“Such publication will make unmetered customers to be aware of the estimated period they have to wait before they can be metered,’’ it stated. 
 
 
The statement stated that NERC had issued warning to the DISCOs against wrongful estimated billings and acts of compelling customers to buy, install and repair transformers and poles. 
The statement said the MoU between, NERC and CPC was part of concerted efforts to reduce the incidence of estimated billing completely. 
 
According to the statement, the Director General of CPC, Mrs. Modupe Atoki, commended NERC for the long standing relationship between the two agencies. 
Atoki, according to the statement, expressed CPC’s cooperation and renewed effort to protect electricity consumers from abuse of their rights.

The People's Democratic Party(PDP), problem now increase almost everyday. This time the stakeholders and elders has called on the new National Chairman of the party, Ali Modu-Sheriff, to resign. 
 
The group, under the aegis of PDP Rescue Group led by Wilberforce Juta, who also contested for PDP chairmanship, made the call during a news conference on Sunday in Abuja. Mr. Juta said that the party leaders were upset about Mr. Modu-Sheriff’s appointment as PDP national chairman. 
 
 
He said “most PDP members did not see in Sheriff a model of impeccable integrity that the party badly needed to lead it at this critical moment. 
“We are upset by the decision of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party in appointing Ali Modu-Sheriff as national chairman. 
 
“We are convinced that this decision is against the will and wish of the generality of members. 
“We know for a fact the North-East Zonal wing, having been directed by the National Caucus of the party to forward nominees from the zone, did not nominate Modu-Sheriff for the position of national chairman. 
 
 
“Consequently, Modu-Sheriff should do the needful by stepping down honourably as it is evident that party members nationwide have overwhelmingly rejected him.” 
He said that the current leadership crisis in PDP was a challenge to every Nigerian. 
 
He emphasised that “having the PDP destroyed by acts of error of judgment as being witnessed now is denying Nigeria of a strong opposition party that is badly needed if Nigeria’s democracy is to be strengthened and all tendencies toward civilian dictatorship checked. 
“The crisis must challenge all party members to action to halt the party from further drift. The plan of PDP Rescue Group is to mobilise party members and leaders to help attain this noble goal. 
 
“It is, therefore, critical if the PDP must come back to national reckoning, that we remodel its leadership on the platform of honesty as required by the party manifesto.” 
 
He then urged all party organs to rise to the challenge by insisting on the removal of Mr. Modu-Sheriff. 
Mr. Juta also urged the different organs, as well as past and present leaders to commence the search for persons with high integrity, strategic insight and fear of God Almighty to lead the party. 
“It is our considered view that we endeavour to elect only those with discernible traits,” he said. 
 
 
He called for early Congresses and National Convention of the party to elect new leaders as the term of the current leadership was due to end in March 2016. 
 
He said “under no guise should the tenure of the current leadership of the party be extended, if we must make the needed fresh beginning.” 
While answering questions, former President of the Senate, Adolphus Wabara, who is the Deputy Chairman of the group, said Mr. Modu-Sheriff’s appointment was imposed on the party. 
 
A former Deputy Governor of Sokoto Sate and Secretary of the group, Mukhtari Shagari, also called on Mr. Modu-Sheriff to resign. 
 
Mr. Shagari added that leaders of the party could not sit down and allow the party to die.</div>

The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Local and Foreign Debts, Senator Shehu Sani, has raised the alarm that the state governments owe $3,271,960,461 foreign debts. 
 
Sani said in a statement on Saturday that most of the debts were loans collected to provide infrastructure or to create investment opportunities and that many of them might take up to 50 years to service. 
 
He alleged that most of the foreign and domestic loans collected by the states were, however, spent on personal luxuries or wasted in maintaining local political empire or even used to finance white elephant projects and unrealistic political campaign promises. 
 
He expressed the fear that states in the country could end up failing if they kept on borrowing at the current pace, without adequate plans and enough resources to service them. 
 
Sani, who represents Kaduna Central in the Senate, restated his opposition to the plans by the governors of the northern states to obtain huge loans from the Saudi Arabia-based Islamic Development Bank, insisting that the money might end up again in private pockets. 
 
He said, “The Northern Governors had through their Chairman, the Borno State Governor, Kashim Shettima, reacted to my opposition to their move to secure loan from the Islamic Development Bank in Saudi Arabia. 
 
“They insisted I am wrong and they are right. I wish to respond to them. The current foreign debt profile of Nigerian States stands at $3,271,960,461.03. Most of these debts were loans collected in the name of infrastructure or investment. 
 
“There is no tangible infrastructure development in the North commensurate with amount of loans collected by the state governments in the last two decades. 
 
“Most states are incapable of servicing their debt in the next 50 years. Taking cognisance of the current state of our economy, we have been plunged into a debt trap, which our grandchildren will not even be able to pay. 
 
“There is no single export-based investment or industry in the North that is currently in operation towards generating and attracting $1m monthly of foreign exchange.”</div>

Last week, the local currency fell from 310 to 338 as acute shortage of the greenback lingered. 
 
The CBN has left the official exchange rate unchanged at N197 to the dollar on its official interbank window. 
 
Forex dealers and experts expect the naira to fall further at the parallel market this week as demand for the greenback continues to soar. 
 
 
 
“The situation has got to the point of hysteria now; everybody wants to hold dollars. So the demand is rising and piling up,” the Chief Executive Officer, Cowry Asset Management Limited, Mr. Johnson Chukwu, said. 
 
The local currency hit a record low of 338 to the dollar on Thursday as desperate importers scrambled for dollars to meet their obligations overseas. 
 
The local currency had closed at 325, 318, 313.5 and 310 on Thursday, Wednesday, Tuesday and Monday, respectively. 
 
“We see the naira falling further in coming days if the central bank fails to lift the dollar restriction,” the Acting President, Association of Bureau De Change Operators, Aminu Gwadabe, said. 
 
Tumbling global oil prices have battered Nigeria’s oil-dependent economy, with external reserves down to an 11-year low at $27.89bn on February 9, Reuters reported. 
 
President Muhammadu Buhari is concerned that further depreciation will hurt poor Nigerians, but the CBN’s refusal to revise the pegged exchange rate has widened a chasm between official rate and the parallel market. 
 
In January, the central bank halted dollar sales to the BDC operators and allowed commercial banks to accept dollar deposits, in a failed effort to shore up dwindling foreign reserves. 
 
Around 90 per cent of the nation’s foreign exchange earnings come from crude oil exports, but mismanagement of the refineries means the country must also import expensive refined fuel. 
 
The Managing Director, Financial Derivatives Company Limited, Mr. Bismarck Rewane, said it was high time the CBN came up with a forex policy to address the forex crisis confronting the nation. 
 
In an economic note released on Thursday, Rewane said, “Nigerians are perplexed at the endless slide of their currency, which is now trading at the lowest points ever. 
 
“This is happening even when the oil price is up at $31pb. The debate as whether to devalue the naira is not the real issue. The discourse should be whether we need an exchange rate policy or not. The absence of a policy is a recipe for economic anarchy and a race to the bottom.” 
 
According to Chukwu of Cowry Asset, the CBN needs to address the forex crisis before it gets too late. 
 
The Head, Investment Advisory, Afrinvest West Africa Limited, Mr. Ayodeji Ebo, believes the CBN needs to review the list of the 41 items it banned from the official forex market, saying “some of the items need to return to the official forex market to reduce the pressure at the parallel market.”

He said that the had it been withing his power, he will immediately revoke the privatization and amend the laws of the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) to forestall future indiscriminate price increase. 
 
“I am boiling and I am about to burst, there is no need for the increment in electricity tariff, they have no reason. 
 
“These people took over these companies for peanuts and they have not invested, I have not seen, how will they just come and be charging people indiscriminately like that. 
 
“This is not a competitive market where you say the market forces determine the price, they just want to take advantage of Nigerians, I am against that completely. 
 
“In fact I am against the privatization completely, because there is no competition, they want to start charging whatever they like. 
 
“In fact, left to me, that privatization of the power sector should be revisited and revoked. Ndume said that although the NERC had power to set prices, the recent increase was indiscriminate. 
 
He said that the laws establishing the commission may also have to be revisited if the NERC continues to increase prices while the common man suffers. 
 
“Even if it is the Senate that gave the power to those people to fix the price it is wrong and even if I was part of it I am wrong. 
 
“If I can I will cancel their power to fix prices, how can they be charging us so much?” he queried. 
 
Recall that the new electricity tariff regime which took effect on Feb. 1, has generated a lot of controversy with labour unions across the country threatening to go on strike. 
 
Meanwhile, the senator however supported the recent N50 stamp duty which has also taken effect stressing that government needed to make more money to be able to finance most of its projects. 
 
He argued that it was a government of the people and as such the people too must contribute to the funding of its government.</div>

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has justified the disruption of a gay wedding last Saturday at a hotel in Jiwa Community of Abuja, King’s Land Hotel. 
 
The FCT Police Command spokesperson, Assistant Superintendent of Police Anjuguri Manzah, said the command received an intelligence report and swiftly moved to the venue of the event to stop the marriage from holding. 
 
He said, “We acted based on the provisions of the Same-Sex Prohibition Act signed into law in 2013. 
 
“We received an intelligence report and acted fast by moving to the venue of the event to stop it.” 
 
 
 
Manzah, who gave the names of the couple as Ibrahim Lawal (husband) and Umar Tahir (wife), added that the men were both from Kaduna State. 
 
He said the police were investigating the case and would charge the couple and other persons involved in the ceremony to court. 
 
Apart from the couple, Manzah said the police also arrested some other persons connected to the ceremony. 
 
He said, “We also arrested the sponsors of the wedding and the owner of the hotel where the event was billed to hold.” 
 
In 2013, ex-President Goodluck Jonathan signed into law the Same-Sex Prohibition Act. 
 
Parts of the Act read, “A marriage contract or civil union entered into between persons of same sex: (a) is prohibited in Nigeria; and (b) shall not be recognised as entitled to the benefits of a valid marriage. 
 
“A person who enters into a same sex marriage contract or civil union commits an offence and is liable on conviction to a term of 14 years imprisonment.” 
 
Nigeria is among 38 African countries which outlaw same-sex marriage.</div>

Beall posted the image on Facebook of naked breastfeeding mothers on February 4. The post, which was flagged by male users and wiped from Facebook in 2015, is meant to show motherhood as natural, and not sexual, as the females' only visible private parts are their breasts. The photo furthers the notion that there is nothing sexual about breastfeeding and that shaming women for breastfeeding in public is unfair as such:

"I took this a little over a year ago and I was just reflecting how [Facebook] banned me from my account a year ago when I originally posted this for not blurring a nipple," Beall wrote in a Facebook post earlier this month. "Fast forward to today, nipples are allowed on [Facebook] if a child is breastfeeding." 
 
Beall told Cosmopolitan last February that taking a nude self-portrait of herself breastfeeding her son inspired her to take the group breastfeeding photo, which she said celebrates the "beauty, 'flaws', shapes, and vulnerabilities of all mothers." She also said that her breastfeeding photo disappeared from Facebook last year after men complained about it being on the social media platform despite the fact that she blurred out the mothers' private parts. 
 
"Then someone noticed I had missed blurring one nipple and the photo was again reported and finally removed," she told Cosmopolitan at the time. "I would love to post my nude breastfeeding mothers without blurring the nipples on Facebook, but what I would love most is for Americans to redefine their relationship to a woman's breasts and to praise and celebrate the nude, varying body shapes without having to label them 'disgusting' or 'unhealthy.'"

Many have taken advantage of the Internet and social media to call out the hypocrisy of people who shame breastfeeding yet have no problem with viewing breasts in a sexual manner. Actress Alyssa Milano is a well-known breastfeeding advocate and has repeatedly posted photos of herself breastfeeding her child on social media, as she appreciates the bond that breastfeeding has created between her and her offspring.

Though breastfeeding has been positive for Milano, she has faced backlash for sharing the above photos with her following. Milano told Entertainment Tonight in September that she finds it crazy that people don't want to see her breastfeeding photos yet celebrate when celebrities such as Miley Cyrus show their breasts in a sexual way. 
 
"I think people are more comfortable sexualizing breasts than relating them to what they are made for, which is feeding another human," She said.</div>
