According to a report, the deceased, it was gathered, died in a boat mishap while on their way to Kurutie in Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State for the funeral.<br/>
<br/>
The victims were said to have hardly taken off from the Miller Waterside, Warri, on their way to the venue when the speedboat they boarded allegedly capsized.<br/>
<br/>
A source from a Gbaramatu community, while corroborating the incident to journalists, said: “We were already at the funeral celebrating Chief Thomas Ekpemupolo when we got news of the accident.<br/>
<br/>
“Initially, we were told only two persons had died. Further details later revealed that about four persons, three females including one Faith (surname withheld) from Ogulagha, another female from Kurutie and a man apparently from the Northern part of the country, lost their lives in the mishap.<br/>
<br/>
The Hausa man, I gathered, was actually not an invited dignitary, but someone who was conveying some wares to trade at the funeral ground.”<br/>
<br/>
It will be recalled that the funeral rites for late Chief Ekpemupolo began on Friday with the internment holding Sunday.<br/>

The prison official who is attached to the Federal Prisons, Ogwashi-Uku in Aniocha South Local Government Area of the state was arrested with two other suspects over the crime.<br/>

Public Relations Officer, SP Celestina Kalu, who confirmed the arrest yesterday in Asaba said on August 14, 2016, the victim was kidnapped at PTI Junction, Warri and was released five days later on August 19, after the payment of N500, 000 ransom by her family.<br/>
Kalu explained that on September 15, a team of Special Anti-Kidnapping Squad (SAKS) while acting on a tip-off arrested two ladies, Nnoma John from Imo State but resident at Destar Hotel Asaba and Joy Simon from Mbiri, Delta State ,but resident at Agbor as accomplices to the kidnap gang.<br/>
<br/>
According to the police image maker, Nwadialo was later arrested, adding that investigation further revealed that the prison official is an accomplice to a kidnap kingpin who was simply identified as Innocent and currently an inmate of the prisons at Ogwashi-Uku.<br/>
Kalu added that the suspected kidnap czar who allegedly uses multiple Sim cards of various networks specialises in online kidnap coordination/ransom negotiation from the prison.<br/>
She accused Innocent of having a hand in the numerous kidnap incidents within Warri axis and the abduction of another lady, Odion Haruna on September 11, 2016 in Ebrumede area of Warri.<br/>
She said that investigation was still ongoing, assuring that the culprits will be charged to court at the end.</div>

According to the report, the unidentified businessman frequently patronized the 31-year-old commercial sex worker who operated in one of the brothels in the area and he had bargained for a ‘Till Day Break, TDB, with the prostitute.Punch reports.<br/>

While they were together, the customer, a highly placed businessman, asked for a drink.<br/>
Ebere was said to have induced him to sleep as she allegedly drugged his drink; then she eventually took off when she noticed her customer was fast asleep after paying her in hard currency from the brief case.<br/>

The police in Umunede are reportedly on the trail of Ebere.<br/>
Meanwhile, an eyewitness identified only as Gloria, said the customer had lodged in with the girl while carrying a big briefcase only to have woken up some hours later, screaming for help after the girl had disappeared into the thin air,<br/>
According to police report, the bar manager of the unnamed brothel, Nnamdi Frank, is helping in further investigation after several calls to her GSM lines went unanswered.<br/>
One of the police officers who spoke on condition of anonymity, said,<br/>
“As we gathered, the man paid the girl in dollars. She probably stole the briefcase because she she must have seen money in it when her customer opened it to pay her.<br/>
“We are investigating a report of the stolen briefcase containing huge sums of money and a driver’s license and we hope to bring the girl to book.”</div>

The arrest was confirmed on Wednesday, March 16. Astonishingly, the 34-year-old suspect, Best Odeh in his confessional statement, revealed that members of his gang were responsible for series of abductions in Oghara community.<br/>

According to The Vanguard, the suspect gave the identities one of their abducted victims simply as Candy, revealing that the sum of N500,000 was collected as ransom for his release.. Others according to him, were one Mrs Avi Omotie of Ovade village, Oghara and Mrs Rose Asuai.<br/>

He said: “We kidnapped Mrs Omotie last year while Mrs Asuai who lives at Oghara junction was also kidnapped last year, precisely on October 8, 2016. Members of my gang are Alaba Gold, Godstime Ekwereme. They both live in Oghara village, while our leader is Onos Okerobo, he is from Otumara village in Oghara. Our targets are usually from Oghara and are usually those we know their financial status. I went into kidnapping because I had nothing doing, no hand- work , no job.<br/>

“I did not even go to school” he said without any sign of remorse.<br/>

Confirming his arrest, spokesperson for the Delta state police command, Celestina Kalu said: “In the continuous manhunt for kidnappers terrorizing Oghara axis, detectives attached to Oghara division while acting on a tip off,arrested one Best Odeh of Otumara village.<br/>
<br/>
During interrogation, he confessed his membership of a notorious kidnap gang headed by a wanted kidnap kingpin, one Onos Okerobo of Otumara village, Oghara. Items recovered from him included an improvised single barrel cut to size gun.<br/>

“Meanwhile, investigation is ongoing while manhunt for other members of the gang continues,” the police spokesman said.<br/>

In the same vein, about 52 suspected criminals have been arrested and detained by the Delta state police command in connection with various crimes.<br/>

<div xmlns='http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml'>EKU— REMINISCENT of the military era, about 10 soldiers flogged and used boots on hundreds of women protesting at Ovre-Eku (Iwevbo) community yesterday, over a land which had been in dispute for years between Edo and Delta states.<br/>
<br/>
The women, numbering over 500, wearing black clothing, had converged at Eku community from where they marched to the disputed land carrying a coffin covered in palm fronds to express their displeasure over alleged sale of the land to an oil company.<br/>
<br/>
Getting to the spot at about 10:45a.m., they were accosted by the soldiers, who ordered the women to leave the site. The women insisted on being addressed by a representative of the company.<br/>
<br/>
Angered by the stand of the women, a senior military officer identified to be the Unit Commander at the site, Lt. E. D. Oworobo, cocked his riffle, threatened to shoot and then ordered his men to flog the women.<br/>
<br/>
Two journalists, including a Vanguard correspondent, who had accompanied the protesting women, suffered the same fate. The soldiers chased the fleeing women into adjoining bushes at the site.<br/>

The aged among the women, some in their 80s, who could not run, were trampled on by the soldiers and others flogged with tree stems.<br/>

When the Unit Commander, Lt. E. Oworobo, was contacted by this reporter to comment on the way and manner the women were treated, he described the reporter as an “idiot and a madman.”<br/>

Meanwhile, the soldiers again went berserk at about 11:30a.m., invaded parts of Ovre-Eku community, destroyed nine motorcycles and 13 bicycles, while residents of the community fled, following the arrival of the soldiers in a white Toyota Hilux van.<br/>

The Police Commissioner in the state, Mr. Alkali Baba Usman who confirmed the arrest of the suspects to journalists in Asaba on Thursday, said the suspects upon interrogation confessed to the crime, adding that they are responsible for kidnapping many staff of the Delta State University Teaching Hospital (DELSUTH) in recent times.<br/>

He said: “In process of our investigation, we found that idle youths aid kidnap suspects in executing their evil act, for instance, over 20 staffers of DELSUTH were kidnapped and released in the last one month, and the suspects confessed that idle youths in Oghara assisted them.”<br/>

The police boss disclosed that the suspects were arrested with the help of various vigilance groups, adding that they would be charged to court when investigations are completed.<br/>
<br/>
“Oghara, Sapele, Ogwashi-Uku, Issele-Uku are flash points where these kidnappers operate, we will bring all of them to book” the Police Commissioner said.</div>
