TOPIC: GREAT GOD

TEXT: Luke 7:11-17; 23:39; John 5:1-15

MEMORY VERSE: Hebrews 4:16
Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.(KJV)

>>Getting Started
The four previous lessons in this unit focused on great encounters ordinary people had with Jesus, and the great blessings they received from that encounter. Today's lesson is more focus on the character of Jesus then on the people who encountered Him. It comes to encourage us that what He did those days, He still does today. God's Word make it clear that Jesus can and does help us in times of need; though sometimes that help may come in ways we don't expect, yet, He does help, and we are to expect it!

>>Goals
-           To understand how Jesus can do miraculous things in our Lives.

-           To know that we all face situations in which we need the Lord's help;

-           And that we can confident that He hears and answers our pleas for help.

>>Activity Option
Brainstorm: Reasons why the Lord does miracle. List the ideas generated. Have volunteers read John 9:3 and Hebrews 2:3-4. Then discuss what they teachers about the purpose of miracles.

>>Discussion Questions
1.     Read John 5:1-15. Do you think that the invalid man was expecting to be healed that day? Explain.

2.     Besides healing, what other ways might Jesus help people when they may not be expecting it?

3.     Read Luke 17:11-17. What do you think made Jesus to reach out to the plight of this window?

4.     How did the crowd react to that miracle? How do people (both believers and unbelievers) react to accounts of God's miraculous power at work in the world today?

5.     Read Luke 23:39-43. What is the difference between this story and the first two stories? Explain the different approaches the Lord applied.

6.     What do you think about asking the Lord for things you really want? How do you respond in those circumstances it seems there's delay or He's not going to answer?

>>Conclusion
We all face unexpected situations when we need help. sometimes we may not even except help to come, because we think the situation is beyond hope. Sometimes we may even wonder whether God can help. The truth remains: We serve a great God who does miraculous things. As the song writer encouraged, let's take everything to the Lord in prayer; for He deeply cares for us.
