Chelsea coach Guus Hiddink has confirmed the club are set to sign defender Matt Miazga from New York Red Bulls before the close of the transfer window.

Goal understands the USA international has been determined to move to Europe and will now head for Stamford Bridge, despite the Red Bulls being reluctant to sell the 20-year-old.

"He [Miazgo] is a promising player," he told reporters. We’re not rushing but he will be one of the squad members for the future.

"[He is a] young guy, stepping up to the national team. You can see what players are capable of in training."

Miazga will be joined at Stamford Bridge by Alexandre Pato with Hiddink confirmed a deal to sign the Brazilian on loan from Corinithians is close to being completed.

"Pato is in London. He was well spotted," added the Dutchman. "There are no secrets. He’s now in the process of paperwork. We won’t rush it and soon he can go on the pitch.

"It’s not a gamble because coming on loan let’s us see if he can adapt to the demands. We’ll give him all of the help we can.

"If you buy players who must make the next step then it’s more of a risk. We’ll see if the club is happy with him in the upcoming months. He cannot be fully fit yet."
