It was not all tears, crying and wailing at the funeral of the late minister of state for labour and productivity, James Ocholi, his wife, Blessing and son, Joshua.
Ngige who was giving the vote of thanks at the end of the event, virtually joked about every personality he recognised.
Ngige giving the vote of thanks at the event as TUC president, Bobboi Bala Kaigama (behnd) looks on
The former governor of Anambra state started by recognising all the clergymen at the event, thanking them for a job well done.
He then moved to the political class, where he firstly recognised Vice President Professor Yemi Osinbajo, who he thanked for leading members of the Federal Executive Council to the funeral.
While doing the introductions, Ngige reminded the crowd that Professor Osinbajo was a pastor with the Redeemed Christian Church of Nigeria (RCCG). He went further to say jokingly that the ministers in FEC will gladly join the RCCG just to vote Osinbajo as the church’s overseer if there was an election to vote in the church.
Ngige’s comments elicited laughter from the crowd and even drawing a smile from Osinbajo himself. Not done, Ngige also reminded his audience that the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir David Lawal is a pastor.
However, he said the word ‘pastor’ in a low tone, because according to him he was not really sure of that appendage on Lawal. Another laughter erupted.
Ngige then finally took on Senator Dino Melaye, saying he is traditional leader in Kwara state, after which he lambasted supporters of former governor of Kogi state, Captain Idris Wada for chanting the former’s name when he recognised him.
He said: ”Those who shouted now are those arranged crowd that troop to the court when an election petition tribunal is sitting. They are a hired crowd.”
Looking at the direction of the supporters, Ngige said: ”Don’t worry, we will find you people jobs, so that no one will hire you as supporters again.”
It is obvious Ngige did all he did just to liven up the situation at the funeral.
Earlier during his speech, Ngige had also jokingly referred to Governor Yahaya Bello, as ”a governor who inherited votes."
