Akinwunmi Ambode, the Lagos state governor, has directed the temporary closure of the market.
The governor also announced the restriction of movement on four streets in the area.
At least six people are reportedly killed while some police officers have been critically wounded by hoodlums.

The Ikorodu road was reportedly blocked from Ketu at the time of filing this report.

A unit of soldiers has arrived at the market to renew the peace while the market has been closed.
The riot appears to be a communal clash between Yorubas and Hausas who have remained rivals over control of the market.
